Can any one tell me how to export a html table to excel sheet or save it in excel format.

You cannot from Firefox as such. Excel may have a method of importing tables but that would have to be taken up in one of the Microsoft forums.

One thing that can work is selecting the table, copying it to the clipboard and insert it with "Paste Special".

If this is for yourself, I suggest using an Excel web query. In Excel (2002-2003):

On the other hand, if you want to generate a new page using JavaScript or your server-side code, that probably would get a better response on the mozillaZine Web Development board. - Data > Import External Data > New Web Query
- Paste the URL and load the page. (This uses the IE rendering engine.)
- Click the yellow arrow for the table you want and Excel will insert it into your sheet.
