Unable to make Seamonkey my default browser in Vista
In Vista I am unable to set Seamonkey as my default browser. I've already tried the following:
1) Uninstalled & reinstalled Seamonkey
2) Checked the do I want to make Seamonkey my default browser checkbox when starting Seamonkey.
3) In Seamonkey Edit/Rreferences pressed the Set Default Browser button
4) Changed the default application for .htm, .html, & .url to Seamonkey
5) Used Control Panel/Defaults/Custom to set Seamonkey as my default browser.
6) Ran Seamonkey as administrator.
7) Turned off UAC.
Nothing is working!!!
Can any help???

Yes I tried everything at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Default_browser. I quess I was not specific enough with my original list.
Missing from my original list:
8) Tries to use Set Browser & Default Browser.
9) Tried running the command seamonkey.exe -silent -setDefaultBrowser

I believe that the problem has something to do with the Vista Protocals:
FTP Firefox URL Firefox
GOPHER Firefox URL Firefox
HTTP Firefox URL Firefox
HTTPS Firefox URL Firefox
They are set to IE7 when it is the default browser and to FireFox when it is the default browser. Seamonky does not seem to change these values. And it also appears that Vista Home Premium does not come with a Vista Group Policy Editor.
Does anyone know have to change these values?????

Are you able to assign those protocols to SeaMonkey via "Start -> Default Programs -> Associate a file type or protocol with a program"?
* Ref:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Window ... 21033.mspx
you can manually set the default browser by selecting it as the the default program for individual file types and protocols as follows:
<snip>
* Windows Vista: Click the Start button, open "Default Programs" and then click "Associate a file type or protocol with a program". [5] *
Assign the following protocols and file types to the browser you wish to set as default:
* URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol
* URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy
* URL:File Transfer Protocol
<snip>

The windowshelp.microsoft.com Windows Vista Help page I referenced says this:
P.S. I don't use Windows Vista so the best I can do is quote from the Windows Vista Help page.
If a program does not show up in the Programs list
If a program does not show up in the list, you can make the program a default by using Set Associations.
1. Open Default Programs by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Default Programs.
2. Click Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
3. Click the file type or protocol that you want the program to act as the default for.
4. Click Change program.
5. Click the program that you want to use as the default for the file type you selected, or click the arrow next to Other Programs to show additional programs. (If your program is not listed, click Browse to find the program you want to use, and then click Open. If no other programs are installed that are able to open the file type or protocol, your choices will be limited.)
6. Click OK.
Note: You cannot change an association for a file type or protocol and leave it blank or disassociated. You must select a new program.
P.S. I don't use Windows Vista so the best I can do is quote from the Windows Vista Help page.

I have this link where I explained how I (and others) set Thunderbird as the default email program in Vista. Everything you need to do to set SeaMonkey as the default email program and browser will be in the same place: See if this topic helps: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=521834

If my last post or Daifne's link doesn't help:
I just did a forum search and saw that you had posted another topic on this same issue on 24 March 2008, but you never followed up on it:

Alice,
I've already done all this. If you goto Start Menu/DefaultPrograms/Associate a file type or protocol with a program and scroll down to the very bottom you will find the Protocals. You will notice in the list the following:
FTP URL:File Transfer Internet Explorer
GOPHER Firefox Internet Explorer
HTTP URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol Internet Explorer
HTTPS URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy Internet Explorer
The applications associated with these protocols changes from Internet Explorer to FireFox When I make FireFox the default browser and back again when I make Internet Explorer the default browser. THEY DO NOT CHANGE WHEN I MAKE SEAMONKEY THE DEFAULT BROWSER!!!
I totally forgot about my previous posting in March. I never got a notification that someone replied.
Any way I have a HP Vista SP1 and am using SeamMonkey v1.1.9.
I have responded to the last link you sent me (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=424366). Maybe they can help.
