[Theme] Red Cats (blue flavor) 5.6.3 [2014-03-01]

Post by Red_Fat_Lazy_Cat »

There can never be too many cats! Turn your Firefox into Firecat and enjoy browsing in the furry company. The theme is also available in green flavor. There will be NO other flavors of Red Cats nor will there be a dog version of the theme.

Version for Firefox 29+ (Australis) is currently in development.
Latest version: Red Cats 5.6.3 for Firefox 4.x - 27.0.x and Windows/Mac/Linux
If you're using Firefox 2.x - 3.5.x, install version 4.2.4 instead

Supported (themed) extensions

About:Config, AdBlock Plus, ChatZilla, chromEdit, Extension Options Menu, Get Mail, Go Up/Uppity, MR Tech Toolkit, QuickNote, RestartFirefox, RSS Icon in Awesombar, ScrapBook, Simple Add-ons Button, Simple Options Button, Stylish, Themes Menu, Undo Closed Tab Button

Hacks

You can spice up the theme with a few hacks - just add the respective code to your userChrome.css and restart Firefox. Note that the code should go BEFORE any other text you may find inside userChrome.css or it won't do the trick.

  • Change the background color of selected tab (Red Cats 5.0.0+):

    • Bronze tab Image

      Code: Select all

      @import url(chrome://global/skin/hacks/Bronze_tab.css);

    • Sapphire tab Image

      Code: Select all

      @import url(chrome://global/skin/hacks/Sapphire_tab.css);
  • Old fashion Back-Forward button - for those who're using Firefox 3.x and missing the Forward Cat (Red Cats 4.2.3+) :

    Image

    Code: Select all

    @import url(chrome://global/skin/hacks/oldBackForward.css);

Version for Firefox 3 is out so I'm bumping this long forgotten thread. :)

Will you consider doing a Thunderbird and Sunbird theme that matches this? I've been using Red Cats (green flavor) forever now, but my Thunderbird and Sunbird are still themeless because I haven't yet found a theme that holds a candle to Red Cats.

The Thunderbird version of Red Cats is a very, very, VERY slow work in progress. As for the Sunbird version - sorry, no such plans.

Well, that's cool. Feel free to hit me up if you need any testing on that work in progress. :)

I am a devoted user of your Red Cats (Green Flavor) firefox
theme. I'm using it since Firefox 1.0.0.7. I love cats very
much too. This theme is my favorite and I like it very much.
However now after updating theme to 4.2 there are minor flaws.
I'm using several extensions, among them All in One Sidebar. It
is not compatible with your themes, but I didn't mind little
glitches with buttons. But now extension list and downloads
look bad in compact mode. the icons are only 2-3 pixels in size,
other icon place is a fat green frame.
4.0 version does not have such problems.
I think, All in One Sidebar is a popular enough extension to make your theme
compatible with. However, I'm remaining your devoted user.
Many thanks for the best Firefox theme I've seen.

I already wrote this in e-mail, but didn't get any answer.

Looks like Gmail keeps moving legitimate messages into the spam folder as I don't recall getting any email from you. Oh well.

As to your request, as much as I hate to upset a devoted user of my theme, I'm afraid that the All in One Sidebar extension will never be compatible with the Red Cats themes - or Curacao, for that matter. Please see this post for details. Simply put, AiOS insists on dictating its own colors/styles and defeating them would force me to rewrite half of the theme. And regardless of how popular an extension is, it's out of the question. So I'm very sorry but it cannot be helped...

Thank you for the reply. I've read the post and now I inderstand the situation. The problem is with the extension and it cannot be themed.

I've made a little changes to your theme to optimize it for All in One Sidebar compact view of the extensions and downloads.
(I hope that doesn't hurt your feelings)
The changes were following:

in the downloads.css I've removed richlistitem[type="download"] .downloadTypeIcon class (may be it's not needed)
and in
richlistitem[type="download"] > hbox > vbox:first-child,
download > hbox > vbox[pack="start"]:not([flex="1"]):first-child
I removed border, width, height, and max-width, max-height, border and margin parameters.
Though that does not make the downloads list look much better, it at least allows using really compact view, and it is not so bad.

In extensions.css I modified the .addonIcon class, the following parameters were modified:
border: 0px solid;
width: 32px;
max-width: 32px;
height: 32px;
max-height: 32px;
padding: 0px;

That makes extensions compact view to look exactly as I want it.

I know that's not the real fix, because original extensions and downloads window looks better with non-modified theme, but I have already forgotten when I opened these windows last time not in sidebar and not in compact view except for testing my changes to the theme.

Hi! I recently upgraded to Firefox 2.0.0.15 and the theme(version stated above) no longer works. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no success, including restarting Firefox and restarting my computer)--"Unexpected installation error--203". Under the Tools menu, Add-Ons, it shows that Red Cats (bf) is running, but the cat icons don't show on either the Navigation toolbar or the Bookmarks menu (I run Bookmarks from the menu, not as a toolbar); the default icons show instead. I am running Win XP. Thank you in advance for your help.

I am including a few of the error messages from the Error Console that I believe correspond to the failed re-installation:

Sorry for not replying earlier but for some reason the reply notification doesn't work for me after the board upgrade.

For starters, try this solution. May be related to bug 356370 which is fixed in Firefox 3 - yet another reason to upgrade.

It's about my desktop themes (which I do not host myself) and has nothing to do with my Firefox themes.

You're not supposed to double-click the jar file to install a theme. Just drag it onto the Add-ons Manager window.

Hi,

I really like your Red Cats (blue flavor). It's actually what convinced me to switch to Firefox because I could have this great theme :)

I am using Firefox 3.0.5 with a number of extensions (AdBlock Plus, AI Roboform, CS Lite, FEBE, LiveClick, McAfee Site Advisor, New Tab Button on the Right, NoScript, No Squint and Sort Bookmarks Menu) These all worked fine with the previous version of your theme with only minor issues that were no big deal; Roboform isn't skinned (probably it can't be anyway I would guess) and No Squint has a green popup box which isn't skinned when you mouse over it in the status bar. There is also minor issue with deleting bookmarks from the bookmarks menu when using your theme with Sort Bookmarks Menu but this extension is experimental so I would expect some issues when using it.

Anyway after updating to Red Cats (blue flavor) 4.2.3.1, I can no longer see the New Tab Button on the right. If I click where it should be it works, but it's invisible. I was wondering if there was any chance this could be fixed? The New Tab Button on the right extension I am referring to it located here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5338

Thanks for a cool theme.

Hi catswhiskers,

The same thing happens with me, with both blue and green flavors of Red Cats. I love the themes though and hope this issue can be fixed soon.

Hi Madeline,

I am guessing some adjustments to the theme's skinning have hidden this extension from view. I hope it can be fixed too :) For now I am using the previous version of the Red Cats theme again but will be ready to try the newest version again if this problem can be fixed.

Hi catswhiskers,

Good idea. I think I'll follow your example for now and hope it gets sorted soon.
