Importing all address book fields

Post by vmohta »

I've been trying to import my Outlook address book into Thunderbird (both directly and via a .csv file). I can't resolve a couple of problems:

1. There are certain fields (in the Outlook address book and .csv file) that don't make it into TB. One example is Notes. The odd thing is that TB asks mapping info about this field when importing a .csv file.

2. There are other fields, like Birthday, that TB also asks mapping info about when importing a .csv file. However, when I view a contact's details in TB, there isn't a field for birthdays at all.

Anyone know how to import all my address book data safely into TB?

Thanks!

Is anyone aware of whether or not it is possible to address the issue raised above with the fields for the contacts in the address book? I keep my phone numbers for businesses in the "Company" or "Main" field on my Palm, but that field doesn't show in the TB address book. I would like to keep using TB for my email client, but it is of limited usefulness if I can't keep my contacts in its address book.

Take a look at :

I'd search bugzilla for similar problems. The bug reports frequently get comments that describe how to workaround a bug.

Once you've made a reasonable attempt at verifying its not a known problem, try reporting it in http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=31 However, your best bet is probably to reproduce the problem using Mozilla 1.6 and then write a bugzilla bug report for that, mentioning in passing that you also see the problem in thunderbird version ..... There are probably a lot more Mozilla email developers than there are thunderbird developers (just mscott?).

Thanks for the response. I had already gone through most of those threads and some related bug reports. I initially had some trouble with the Palm sync for thunderbird, but I figured out how to get it to work. I didn't see anything on this particular issue by searching bug reports, so I will take your suggestion of trying it with Mozilla and posting something on that platform. Thanks.
