Scan to Email configuration with Brother MFC Print/scan/copy

Post by nthomas »

I have to manually setup my scan to email functions with my MFC printer. It has Outlook Express link built in, but when I point the app to thunderbird.exe, the "scan to email" function simply launches Thunderbird instead of launching and creating a new email with the scanned document attached. Please advise if there is another executable I need to be pointing to or if there is a /??? I need to add to the launch string to get it to pop up a fresh email

Thanks,
Nick

Here are the details from the Brother Site. Apparently it can only point to an executable. Is there a "create new email" executable for Thunderbird?

The Brother Control Center 2.0 supports both Microsoft Outlook and
Outlook Express email packages. We can not guarantee that other e-mail
clients will work with Control Center, Scan-to feature.

The ControlCenter2 is used to interface the "Scan to" action keys on the
Brother machine with the computer. When you use the Scan to e-mail button, the scanned image is automatically attached to an
e-mail.

If the image did not automatically scan or open after scanning using the
Scan to button on the Brother machine, verify the ControlCenter2 is running. When the program is running, there will be a
ControlCenter2 icon (resembles the letter "C" circled by five colored
dots) located in the Task Tray near the clock.

OPENING CONTROLCENTER2:

To open ControlCenter2 from the START menu select ALL PROGRAMS or
PROGRAMS (depending on the OS) -> BROTHER -> MFL-PRO SUITE MFC-XXXX
(XXXX = the model number of your machine) -> CONTROLCENTER2. The
ControlCenter2 window will open.

SETTING THE DEFAULT TARGET APPLICATION::

1. To set the default Target Application in the ControlCenter2, click
the CONFIGURATION button located at the top of the screen next to the
Model name.

2. Choose SCAN -> EMAIL. The Scan to Image configuration screen will
appear.

3. Click the DEVICE BUTTON tab for scanning from the Brother machine
device button or the SOFTWARE BUTTON tab for scanning from the
ControlCenter2 application.

4. The E-Mail Application will be listed in the drop down menu. This is
the default application that will be used to open files scanned with theScan to Image button.

CHANGING THE DEFAULT TARGET APPLICATION:n:

1. To select a different default E-mail Application use the drop down
menu and select different application. You may also change the file
type of the E-mail attachment by choosing the desired File Type from the
drop down menu.

2. Click OK to save the changes and return to the ControlCenter2 screen.
All subsequent scans using the Scan to Image button will open in this program.

I removed your e-mail address because we do not give email support. To do so would deprive other users of the information offered in a response to your topic. More importantly, spammers harvest email addresses from public forums like this.

Supply a link to it and one of us will check it out. Not that I don't trust you, but I don't know you yet. We have people that post links to malware here all the time. We are very cautious.

Done,

Why an application ? Here the reasons:
- The Brother ControlCenter just launch the registered application with only one argument:
the filename of the scanned document. Thunderbird need something else (see Thunderbird commandline arguments).
- The scanned file is temporary (very short life cycle), so it needs to be copied !
- The Brother ControlCenter does not support a script file (cmd, bat, ...) ONLY an app.

So ... take a look here :)

Another software for this problem

I have found another application that does not need any configuration, but seems to be fully configurable!
http://www-stud.uni-due.de/~selastoe/?mdl=downloads

Works like a charm with ThunderBird 2.0.0.9 and my Brother DCP-135c.

Hi lost User!
I´m working with a newer MFC machine using ControlCenter3.
Is there any chance to use Thunderbird (newest version) with that machine?
Testing the tool "MailtoWrapper" there was not successful. Thanks

Hi

tried both and couldn't get them to work at all. I'm using Brother DCP-340CW and Thunderbird 2.0.0.16

Brother MFC-7840, Thunderbird 2.0.0.16

Can't get both programs working.

It would be much better if Brother supports Mozilla Thunderbird.
But I'm sure this way is a long way?? Does anybody knows the way to Brother Japan?

Lost User's app works great. Just installed with MFC-8860DN and TB 2.0.0.16 and it worked first time. It's very important to set the two files names and locations in the ini file the same, but otherwise don't interfere with the rest of the code. I couldn't get MailToWrapper to work at all.

Brother now has a download CC3update.EXE to fix this problem. Thunderbird is now an option to set as default for email.
