[ext] ScrapBook+ 1.x

Post by haselnuss »

ScrapBook+ is a modification of Gomita's extension ScrapBook 1.3.3.7. It speeds up some functions, fixes some bugs of ScrapBook when used with FF3 and adds some additional features.

Differences between ScrapBook+ 1.3.3.13 and ScrapBook 1.3.3.7:
improved features
  • sorting is faster
  • import/export is faster
  • link detection when downloading multiple websites is faster
additional features
  • set a filter when downloading multiple websites to limit your selection
  • use website title (default of ScrapBook) or link name as entry title
  • change character set when downloading multiple websites (UTF-8 oder ISO-8859-1)
  • change timeout when downloading multiple websites (from 0 to 3 seconds)
  • preview of the selected highlighter integrated directly in the toolbar of the editor
fixed bugs of ScrapBook 1.3.3.7 in ScrapBook+ 1.3.3.13
  • missing favicon in sidebar for pages without a favicon
  • drawing of checkboxes in capture dialogue is not working properly

You have to register on AMO, if you want to download it at the moment. I nominated it for the public area one week ago.

Why fork Scrapbook? Why not contribute your fixes back to gomita?

Have you ever tried to contact Gomita? It is impossible to contribute the fixes back to the author. He did not answer my e-mails. He did not react on my comments in his guestbook. And I am not the only one having this problem.

Yes, several times. :(

I have actually managed to do that (I am responsible for the SeaMonkey port). But it's true getting his attention is almost impossible. What I have done in the past is to file a bug in the scrapbook bugzilla with an attached patch in unified diff format. Although I see he doesn't seem to have been checking that either.

Ditto.

Oh good. I thought it was only me.

This is a list of incomplete localizations:

Gomita uses the Babelzilla Web Translation System to do his translations. What you could do is to open a new project there (I assume that you have a different GUID) and then go to the Scrapbook thread and invite the existing translators to add themselves to your project as well. This might also get gomita to notice you

Is this something new in 1.3.4.14? It doesn't seem to replace Scrapbook during the installation procedure. Could you clarify?

That's my fault. You still need to uninstall ScrapBook before installing ScrapBook+. The entry in the list above means something different. I updated the change log in my previous post.

Interfering or not?

If you want to download many web sites, ScrapBook+ stores the URLs of this sites in a list. When the download of a web site starts, the list is scrolled to the entry of this website automatically. I don't like this behaviour as it makes it necessary to pause the download in order to unselect undesired web sites.

What do you think about this automated scrolling?
