Used to be Hyena, is now off topic discussion about America

Post by Varjo »
You are just cruisin for a bruisin mister.
I know. I guess being irritating is just my nature. I only had to spend two months in university until lecturer of phonetics got pissed off because I didn't think what I said.
Been trying to be very quiet since that... :-)

Anyway, I know all americans aren't dumb (even americans remind sometimes that 'hey, we're not all like that' when something ridiculous comes up), it's more the image that you give to the world.

There are two documents people really should see:
"Bowling for Columbine" and
"Let's Ask Americans"

The last one is canadian where guys travel across America and ask people (including professor who were supposed to be specialists in their own profession) completely idiotic questions. They also met George Bush in his election campaign and David Hasslehoff.

Reporter: Should Russia bomb Afghanistan and Sasqachewan?
Bush: Absolutely!

Reporter: Canada is planning to form it's own navy. Since it has no seashore could Canada use harbors of u.s?
Citizen: Yeah, sure. Let's lend a helping hand to neighbour.

People congratulated Canada for having a telephone, first university, 1200km of pavement highway, reaching population of one million citizen and things like that.
They also agreed that Canada should have a time system similar to America instead of having longer minutes, 65 minutes in hour and 20 hours a day.
And smart things like that.

Argh!

Ok, better stop this here before we get a brand new thread for discussion about america.
But really: what can you as an outsider to thinkg about a country in which instructions of a microwave say that don't dry a cat in this, somebody gets a huge amount of money from McDonalds because coffee is too hot, you can buy ammunition from a barber shop and get a rifle when opening a bank account.

who and when a decision will make?

Post by mikecop »

Who decide what name to take ?

Are they here reading these suggestions and discussions ? If they are not, aren't we all wasting our time ?

What is the official way to select the new name ? is there going to be an open poll/vote or is it going to be a close door one person, one team decision ?

Is there a schedule when the name change has to take place ?

Is there a time table for all these ?

Being a non-American living in the U.S., all I can say about this whole thing is that just because someone in the U.S. says something you don't think is right or educated, that doesn't make the whole country dumb. The U.S.A., just like any other country, has very bright people as well as very stupid people. Well that is probably a very well known thing, but I just wanted to show my sanity here.
I know. It's all the success stories from there that destroy the reputation.

It's not the American public that caused all that. It's the blood-sucking American lawyers who turned the stupidity of some Americans into a national phenomenon. ;)

We are probably wasting time, but maybe not,

Officially ? Blake the chief dev, or a sort of, ask for ideas on this forum ,
ideas have been given here
some polls have been organized but the constant waves off "ideas" broke them all.

delay
At first it had been said the 0.6 version will not be a "phoenix" but "new name",
since the roadmap is also broken the timeline is a bit foggy, but we are like old soldier, looking at "vosges blue line".

Should be a time table - who is going to code it ?

The name is and has always been the devs matter - no way out of this -
let's say we are exercizing or playing, but imagine your idea, or anyone idea, is a hit and ex-phoenix take 5% in market-share,
I would be proud to be the mosquito that bothered the team, at least. (don't you jreyst ? ;) )

a vast majority of people in the usa don't watch tv? :P i feel safe to say at least "many" of the usa's kids watched the Lion King (Disney), which is part of where there impression comes from.
I feel safe to say that vast majority watches it too much (around the world, not just America).
Tv is also propably the most effective tool for propaganda ever made.

Don't bother to reply. It's better to stop this converstion here before somebody actually starts to plan sending letter bombs.

As a compensation I have to say that Finland is no perfect either, we have lots of problems. Country is run by morons, byreaucracy swallows the money, lots of celebrity candidates in the coming parliament election (including a singer who tried to back from the whole thing but it was too late and now he's going for it again) and some moron even votes for one of them and instead of making rational decisions politicians either try to please everyone or make their decisions based on what christianity feels about it (eutanasia, prostitution) and just don't consider the consequences.
Yep, this country is going to hell.

I read here and there about the program

One thing the name should express would be the tab - no other brother ;) manages them better.

second is power and speed

third is the "grace", lightness, harmony

So I thought to migration.
birds flying in "V" , duck, wild goose but there are others.
Swan,
Red Swan
Fire Swan maybe for some of us like agressivity,
wild browser

For the "phoenix nostalgy" it is to know that swan is a representation of Phoenix myth in European Nordic countries ( and if you look at phoenix logos in "about" it is a swan no ? )

It had been proposed once.

Wow, my Hyena suggestion nearly turned into a racial issue... I bet everyone's looking forward to what I'm going to write next.
First of all, according to Dictionary.com, hyenas are cowardly, so I don't like the name myself that much anymore. :P
I like Scamp, even though the abbreviation describes Mozilla more than Phoenix, and the criminal reference might upset some people. But the world needs a rebellious browser. :)
Now for another suggestion: Nighthawk. I think someone already suggested hawk, but the nocturnal aspect adds attitude, doesn't it?
And if you don't like that one, you're bound to love Salamander (just another reptile) or EyeBrowse (with an eye for the logo of course - people are prolly gonna misspell that one all the time though). OK, brainstorming much.
