Keyboard shortcut for radio buttons / checkboxes

When I fill in a form I prefer to use the keyboard all the way to tab through and fill in the relevant sections... this is great until I get to checkboxes and radio buttons where I then have to use my mouse.

Is there any way, using the keyboard to check a checkbox or click a radio button?

(assuming you have full keyboard access on)
radio buttons: use left/right arrows to switch the state between the radio buttons.
checkboxes: focus the checkbox and use the space bar to turn it on or off.
