Firefox won't clear the cookies

Ah, yes, an extension. Specifically, the TorButton extension. See https://bugs.torproject.org/flyspray/in ... ea=related . There are also some reviews here that complain about this. When you add extensions, expect unexpected consequences.

You might check to see that Torbutton does not recreate the deleted file. Also note that Torbutton is reported to change other privacy and security settings.

I uninstalled Torbutton, hopefully that fixes it.

Extensions can leave behind changes after they are uninstalled. Certainly they can change settings in your profile. I'm not clear whether they can leave behind code. Let us know what happens.
