In keeping with the theme of mythological birds:

Melatha
Choctaw name for the male lightning bird.

Griffin

Hippogriff

Cockatrice

Roc

In keeping with the theme of "phoenix" meaning shining brightly:

Paragon

Phoenix is one of the most awkwardly spelled words in the English language, actually.

If you try spannish or portuguese, "phoenix" sounds a very strange word. Even a rude word similar to the «f» word.

I dont´t think that a easy and pleasant name is essential.

Not sure if you're being facetious or not, but Surf is a good suggestion. It has the advantage , like Flash, of also being a noun: the surf: waves on the beach. That makes it better suited as a name. I think I maybe like that better than "Go" even.

It would also be appropriate if David chose the name; his help site is an amazing contribution to the Px community. Provided he actually likes that name.

Thanks for the recognicion. Actually, I do like the name. I think it sounds cool. Short and meaningful, unlike Phoenix or Firebird. I'm only using Surfzilla in my avatar because I'm tired of the name not being chosen...

I don't think changing the name on Phoenix Help would be such a good idea. That would fool many visitors into thinking that the name is official.

hmmm, there's over 3,000 hits for "Go Browser" at Google, someone should first check if it isnt already registered ;)

http://www.google.com/search?&q=%22Go%20Browser%22

the domain gobrowser.com is also registered and redirects to FileStream.com, a company which makes a "Turbo Browser"

oh, and Go + Mozilla > reminds me of GoZilla, a spyware packed Download manager :)

Paragon

Hey, I think that name's perfect.

As dictionary.com says:

1. A model of excellence or perfection of a kind; a peerless example: a paragon of virtue.
2.
1. An unflawed diamond weighing at least 100 carats.
2. A very large spherical pearl.

And also:

2. To compare with; to equal; to rival.

The meaning of the word is fine, it's easy to say and sounds cool IMO. Also the diamond metaphor is nice.

What are the cons?

Ooh, I like this one! But I don't think posting suggestions at this stage will do much good... The thread's become humongous. Can't blame a guy for trying though.

Are you kidding ? It is great, fresh blood ; that is what the new name needed.

Although I have been suggesting PARAGON , that was maybe 10 pages ago. But that was one in a big mass so ...
Paragon is synonym of phoenix - still it is not very sexy
so let go for Sexy paragon or ParagonZilla

what about ESTRAGON - mix of PARAGON and DRAGON in old south french

it is also great spice, an herb, for salad sauce or tortilla, with pasta too but in this case basilic (another south dragon, close to estragon but say more subtil, an herb) is often preferred.
Basilic have been suggested , not less than 100 pages ago .

Damn it is an addiction.
I keep SUrfZilla or Suzi - first transsexual browser !! Yipi !

SurfZilla sounds kinda bad.
Firebird isn't bad, but Pyre might be better to keep connection with Phoenix name (Heroes of Might and Magic, right;))?
Why would you even consider to use the OS that is older and more obsolete than your computer?
See, that's just one of the reasons why I pick Linux.

I'm quite impressed,

Paragon is the only name in this massive bloater of a thread that I have not found offensive, it does seem to blend in rather nicely and the definition is excellent.

It really should be seriously considered, any possible trademark infringements?

well there's a company called <a href="http://web.paragonservices.com/products/features/java.htm">Paragon</a> that makes Java applets and does web design, <a href="http://www.paragon.com/products/eltnet_overview.html">Paragon Imaging</a> make a browser plugin for some kinds of images, <a href="http://www.paragon.co.uk/">Paragon</a> in the UK are a publishing company who specialise in the area of videogames, internet and digital home entertainment, <a href="http://www.parappsys.com/Products/certification_qa_testing.html">Paragon Application Systems</a> make some web-based testing software... clicking through a couple more google pages finds dozens of software companies called Paragon, and several products called Paragon too...

so, yes, there are possible trademark infringements... but that's usual...

Here we go again.

Go away for a week and they open this blinkin thread again. :P

I think Paragon is quite good.

I think Epitome is equally good.

I really think SurfZilla sucks big time.

the user agent and a preservation request...

Post by stefanurb »

I have witnessed today a major mistake made by the Chimera=Camino authors: they switched the user agent string completely from Chimera to Camino, preserving only the other parts in the Gecko way of presentation. But this breaks things in log analysis for example in analog, because the same browser is identified by total different unique keys now (up to 0.6 by Chimera and since 0.7 by Camino). Please do not repeat this mistake with Phoenix, but stick to the Phoenix part of it for continuity reasons. This will help to make the browser numbers of Phoenix whatever not appear smaller too, than they are. My Proposal:

Mozilla 5.0 (...) Gecko/date newname/version Phoenix/version

as agent, shows the new name, but preserves counting in the known way. Either way, the bandits at phoenix.com have no reason to enforce that renaming IMHO, it would be better to go the hard way and fight them down at court (because there claim is just nonsensical, would not last there, it is definitely a total other part of IT, where those evil TCPA enforcers work, and nobody can claim this ancient name as his or her).
