Firefox 64-bit

I'm in the process of switching over to Vista 64 bit, and trying to use 64 bit applications where possible.

Now I believe that there isn't an official 64 bit version of FF 3, apart from what are available here:

Has anyone tried any of these? Would I notice a difference in using standard FF 3.0 32 and 64 bit? The same applies for Thunderbird. Or is there perhaps an official nightly build of FF 3.x which is 64 bit?

There are no releases or nightly builds of 64 bit Firefox for Windows from Mozilla as the earliest release to likely have 64-bit versions is Firefox 4.0. The only option you have is either roll your own or use a third-party build. The link you have is Not an official Mozilla site as they are unofficial third-party builds.

There are 64-bit Linux builds on the unstable Trunk nightlies however these are not officially supported as they are mostly to verify that they don't break compilation on x86-64, since it's possible to break x86-64 without breaking x86. The daily update .mars for these were not intended as they were just lazy to go about turning that off after a server change or such.

Most people won't even consider 64-bit builds because they require 64-bit plugins, and these don't exist (particularly flash).

Both of these are tests plugins, so use them at your own risks. More, the Original Poster was using Windows and the Flash plugin is Linux-only. That won't help him to solve his problem.

And to make things worse, the x64 builds of java actually DON'T have a 64-bit plugin. Only the VM is 64 bit, plugin is 32 bit.

Damn, I wonder what the hold up is.

Most modern CPUs have been 64-bit for a while now, I believe? And OS X has been around for a while, and WinXP was released in both 32 and 64 if not mistaken. So CPU and OS have been covered.

Is it mostly a question of plugins, then?
