For Bernie

You've made a very good job! :)
Do you plan to realize also a GreyModern Theme version for Thunderbird?

Legoguy wrote:Bernie, if you don't mind, can I do a backport of your GrayModern into a Modern theme? I've already completed it, however it wasn't based on the latest version you just released... so I want to make sure it's up-to-complete-date.

Go for it.

Legoguy wrote:By the way, I've created a "small" home button that looks...somewhat...well...better than yours if you'd like to use it ;)

Sure, if it's better than the one I've currently got, I'll definitely use it.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

You never know. I first want to reach a 1.0 release with this theme, so that I know it meets the needs of a majority of the Firefox users out there. Then, if I have the time, I certainly may decide to create a GrayModern theme for T'bird. I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Version 0.5 Released

Post by Bernie »

GrayModern 0.5 Released

I sat on this one for a while because I wanted all the Firefox 0.9 dust to settle. Now that it has, I've updated the theme so that it is fully compatible with the 0.9. I'll be doing my best to propogate the new version to the official Mozilla theme sites, and anywhere else that might be appropriate. As usual, I'd appreciate any feedback!

Fixed/Added in 0.5
- Added support for new theme API in Firefox 0.9

Planned Fixes/Additions for 0.6
- Add support for new 0.9 UI elements
- Fix height of regular buttons
- Make listboxes look more like original GrayModern
- Add open state for autocomplete dropdown marker
- Move throbber (large) to main navbar
- Other requests/suggestions?

Download and Install
Download GrayModern 0.5 here.
Install GrayModern 0.5 here.

Nope. I'll apply the changes once the branch is up and running.

GrayModern on my Fox 0.9.2/Mozilla 1.7.2

Post by Äkiidoll »

Bernie
Thanks again for pointing me to this last month. When used
with small icons(only mode I use), its beautiful, elegant and
asthetically pleasing, I use all the icons on the top bar and
leave the main 5 default in place next to the URL field.
This is my fav on Mozilla for 2 yrs, thanks for dressing up
my Fox with GrayModern, I love it...great job Bernie! :p

I'm glad to hear you like it, Caetck. There unfortunately haven't been many changes made since v0.5, but that's mostly due to the fact that it seems to take ages to get anything updated at update.mozilla.org. Once they give me an easy way to login and post updates myself, I'll revisit the theme and try to get caught up with all the changes that have been made since the Firefox 0.8+ days. Thanks for your words of encouragement.

Version 0.6 Released

Post by Bernie »

GrayModern 0.6 Released

After a long period of hibernation, I've finally decided to update the GrayModern theme for Firefox. I received quite a few emails from people wanting to use the theme with 1.0PR, so the good news is, now you can! A lot has changed since I last did anything major on this theme, so that is part of the reason 0.6 took so long to release. Plus, like the last release, I was waiting for the dust to settle a bit.

I'm going to do my best to get this theme updated on U.M.O. and probably Customize.org since I seem to get a lot of hits from that site as well. Please do what you can to spread the word about this new release, since I feel GrayModern is one of the cooler themes available (I can get away with saying this because I didn't design it...only ported it ;)).

As always, I'd appreciate any feedback from those of you who decide to try out and/or update the theme. Without your guys' help, the theme won't get any better. Thanks!

Changes in 0.6
- Bumped maxVersion to 1.0
- Added support for the Find toolbar
- Added support for Feed Autodiscovery
- Added support for new Secure Site Notification
- Added support for Live Bookmarks
- Updated the Download/Extension/Theme Managers
- New, smaller preview image

Planned Changes for 0.7
- Make sure prompt icons are showing up correctly
- Possibly update Secure Site Notification icon set
- Investigate removing old or unused files (reduce download size)
- Fix height of regular buttons
- Make listboxes look more like original GrayModern
- Add open state for autocomplete dropdown marker
- Move throbber (large) to main navbar
- Try to add groove around the URL bar (from Mozilla version)
- Other requests/suggestions?

Download and Install
Download GrayModern 0.6 here.
Install GrayModern 0.6 here.

I was going to bump this up the other day, but didn't get around to it. Nice to see it's still being worked on!

I'll test this out later tonight.

Quick notes for tonight:

- The expand/collapse arrows in places such as the Advanced panel in the Options have a grey background when clicked.
- The Mail button does not have its own icon
- The Mail button has excessive spacing to the right of its icon
- No icon shows for the Print button when in small icons mode
- The Close Tab button should have a wee bit more padding on the right side of the icon
- The toolbar icons are messed up in Help system ("Help|Help Contents" and "Help|For Internet Explorer Users" for example)
- Print Preview's "Landscape" and "Portrait" buttons need to be spaced out further.
- Pressed state of Reload, Stop, Home, and New Tab buttons while in small icons mode makes icon "jump"

Image

- The red arrow is pointing to a missing pixel from one of the corners of the arrow.
- The red circle shows where there needs to be more padding between the word View and the "down arrow"
- The red circle also shows where there needs to be more padding between the "down arrow" and the sidebar border grip.

Suggestions:
- Make the throbber change sizes to fit the size of the toolbar it's on (like in Chris Cook's Luna theme, but of course it would only pick between 16x16 and 32x32 icons and not "scale")

Image

- Background color of drop-down menu is incorrect (should be white)

<b>Edit:</b>
Lots of extra stuff.

<b>Edit 2:</b>
Yet more. Okay, I'm done for tonight. I assume you don't want to hear about all the icons that haven't been replaced yet, so I'll spare you the nagging. =P

Okay, so based on Zeron's feedback I'm expecting v0.7 to show up sometime in Q4 2006 ;)

Seriously though, thanks for your feedback Zeron. I'll look into getting as much of this fixed as I can for the next release. If you spot anything else, let me know!

bernie I used your code as a starting point to get an updated version of Flyson's breeze them working with 1.0 PR. It seems as though you use little or none of the stuff in the folder "communicator" and is mostly residue from mozilla. Is there any reason you keep this in there?

Just curious

Anders, note that in my planned changes for 0.7 I intend to clean up or remove a lot of unused files. The Communicator folder is the most glaring example of something to clean up. However, there are items in that folder that are being referenced in my theme. That is why the folder has not yet been removed.
