QuickNote 0.5.8
- It's backwards compatible with Firefox0.8/Thunderbird/Mozilla Suite as well.

Cheers

- This is a dev release between versions 0.5.8 (latest) and the "up coming" 0.6 release (although it's as stable as an official release).

Note: If upgrading, you need to uninstall your previous version of QuickNote (use the built in un-installer) since this new version uses localization files.

Jed, I'm going to append this to the thread as a matter of general interest as you are an extension developer and might have the answer:

I uninstalled 0.5.8, then installed the dev version. I then changed the icons in the jar file that appears in the chrome folder, which did not affect the icons used by QuickNote.

I then found the other jar file, the one that now resides under the extensions folder, changed the icons therein, and that caused them to change in the running version of QN.

And so to my question: Are both jar files needed, or is the one that is in chrome now extraneous?

(I would experiment, but as the profile manager is not yet working, I am loathe to do that.)

TBE is compatible? I thought it was considered one of the 'bad' extensions that the new API would prevent from installing :)
If you're not using Firefox, you're not surfing the web, you're suffering it.

Magical and mystical things.

Or for the arcane-inclined, its a marriage of Joe Hewitt's MozEngineer and Gilles Durys' inspectThis extensions. :-)

Very helpful for any serious DOMi use...

EDIT: while not all that current, this extension was initially discussed here.

1. I had TBE installed when I installed the first branch release (installer version); along with all my twenty or other extensions, I then had to reinstall TBE, which was successful.

2. A day or two later, Piro released yet another update to TBE, which I was unable to install.

2a. I left him a message on his forum about this, to which he promptly responded that he had mistakenly used the older "whatever" files, and had just fixed the problem.

3. I then downloaded and installed the newest version of TBE. When I dragged the .xpi file into Firefox, the new Extension Manager popped up and showed that TBE was being installed. When that was done, I restarted Firefox, and this is what shows in the Extension Manager:

"Tabbrowser Extensions 1.10.2004052302
Improves tabbed browsing.

John, no, the jar file in the chrome/ is no longer needed, it seems to have been left there from the 0.5.8 version (the uninstaller doesn't get rid of the jar file). This is assuming you are running a Firefox build with the new EM of course.

For profile, it DOES work, but now -p won't cut it, it must be -ProfileManager with capitals.

Thanks, Jed, I'll get rid of the old .jar file: I suspected as much, having realized I'd not manually deleted that file after using QN's uninstall feature.

However, I've tried -ProfileManager, which I know is supposed to work, but I'm not the only one who has found it not to do anything. I'll check Bugzilla to see if that's been reported.

FYI, if you set (in about:config) "app.version" to "0.9" (which is likely what will be done for release guessing from the current Extension Manager source) only three of the extensions listed here will install, all others fail without warning (since they don't claim to support a version on which they were not tested)...

To add to the list of working Fx 0.9 (new API) extensions:

Autohide:
http://www.krickelkrackel.de/autohide/autohide.xpi

TabScroller:
http://www.krickelkrackel.de/tabscrolle ... roller.xpi

AIO 0.11
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/marc.boullet/ex ... est011.xpi

*EDIT*

I've written a small document on converting extensions over to the new EM API.
It's very basic and geared more towards end users who would want their favorite extension working in the EM now.
Anyhow, please let me know if you find it usefull.
Converting Firefox 0.8 Extensions to the new 0.9 API

Comments welcome

Hero of the week, at least for me, is Jed! What a bro.

Heh, nice info on page. I was dreading porting my ghetto-hack Leech extension over to the new system but you've made it seem easy.

Thanky.
