Bought a flashy new scanner - Canon 8800F. Tried out its features-one of which is "email". The scanner had found Outlook Express ok- It had automatically done so.Don't use OE though (except for my old Hotmail accounts), and want to use Thunderbird to email any scanned items.
One can add to the list of mail programs, so I added Thunderbird.exe found in Program Files > Mozilla Thunderbird. However, this only opens up Thunderbird and does not attach the scan to a new message for sending (which it does ok for OE).
Any ideas ?
how to link scanner to new email in Thunderbird ?

Contact Canon to ask how to tweak their software to do what you want it to.

Re: how to link scanner to new email in Thunderbird ?
Canon Support finally got back to me. They are unable to help. They wrote:
"I have looked into your issue with using 'Thunderbird' with your MP Navigator. Unfortunately Canon does not support other companies' products. The issue seems to be that Thunderbird does not interperate MP Navigators commands to attach the files to a new message, correctly. This is an issue which should be solved by Mozilla, you should have a look on the Mozilla support forums there may be a way to configure Thunderbird to interperate the signals correctly."
Oh well, it's no disaster, just not ideal. I'll just have to attach manually, unless some bright spark comes up with a solution.

Re: how to link scanner to new email in Thunderbird ?
Feedback...
My CanoScan i350 has that "so called function".
Like you, it works fine with OE but just opens Thunderbird (..not a "Compose window"), without attaching the scanned article.
I have it set to save the scan in a folder, but I have to go to that folder & select "email this etc..". (from the Explorer left column).
After going through the usual "Do you want to resize the pics, or whatever"..
it then opens Thunderbird with the scanned item attached.
Weird.
Went through all the CanoScan Toolbox features but got same results.
Probably something deeper n darkernot going on in Thunderbird.
This might be better off in the Tech Forum.

Thanks for the feedback. As a Moderator can you move this to Tech Forum? Agree you are right, this would probably be better there.
Hope a solution is found.

Hi !
In the folder c:\Program Files\Canon\MP Navigator 3.0\Device\ you should have a 8800F.ini file
- Edit this file
- Just after
- Add a line :
That worked for my Canon MP160 Scanner
Enjoy

Thanks for the reply but after 9 months, I doubt whether the OP is still monitoring this thread.
