Issue with the security certificate of smtp.mac.com

Post by XFox »

Hi all,
I'm using SM 1.1.14 on Mac OS X 10.4.11.
Since yesterday, when I try to send e-mails through the MobileMe SMTP server smtp.mac.com using TLS encryption I get an alert message that states "Unable to verify the identity of smtp.mac.com as a trusted site.".

This is the screenshot:

If I click "Examine Certificare…" I get "Could not verify this certificate for unknown reasons.":

If I try to use SSL instead of TLS, after one minute or so SM tells me that it's not been able to contact the server.
As you can see, the certificate has been issued on 28/01/2009 and I can assure you that I never had this problem before.
The "funny" thing is that I tried to send some e-mails through smtp.mac.com with SSL encryption enabled using Mail 2.1.3 (Tiger) and Mail 3.5 (Leopard) and I had no problems, so I'm not really sure whether it's a certificate or SeaMonkey problem.
There are also some threads about this issue on the Apple Discussions forums [1][2].
Any thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestion but the date on my computer is right and automatically synchronized with time.euro.apple.com… 8-)

So, really isn't there a SSL/TLS/security certificate guru disposed to have a look at the certificates and see what's going wrong? :(
According to what's emerging in the Apple Discussions' threads, it appears to be a multi-OS (Tiger and Leopard) and multi-MUA issue (even if I've not been able to reproduce it with Mail on my Tiger and Leopars systems… ).

It turned out to be a SeaMonkey issue.
The problem is that SM 1.1.14 lacks the G5 version of the Verisign Class 3 CA.
It has got the G2 an G3 versions but not the G5.
I'll file a bug report to bugzilla.
