Configurable Keyboard Shortcuts

Post by beanjamman »

Why not make keyboard shortcuts configurable? Maybe with keyboard sets, so that Phoenix could use the same shortcuts as IE, Opera, or Lynx. Also, is there anyway to enter the url or search widgets using a keyboard shortcut?

ctrl+l and F6 selects the text in the URL bar (I think I'm missing one)
ctrl+; selects the text in the search bar

Firstly: thanks for the great browser: I have been using 0.4 and love it !!

I would love this configurability !! I used Opera for a long time and rear miss some shortcuts:

1) goto Homepage ALT-HOME is OK, but on my keyboard at home (Happy Hacker) the Home key is missing and it takes 2 keys to get the keycode. This means I need to press 3 keys !!!

2) G-G-G cycle to toggle graphics loading between load/load from cache/do not load.

Regards, Simon

I would also appreciate configurable shortcuts. Keys for 'go back' make me to leave the mouse and push Alt + LeftArrow, because it is not very comfortable to do it by left hand. Perfect way for me are mouse gestures, which aren't working in current release and I have no option to replace these gestures with my customized shortcuts. My previous browser was Galeon and if Phoenix can work as replacement for this browser, there are no doubts about the winner.

There's the RFE. It's been around for two years, and still assigned to nobody. Still activity on it, though.

Ctrl-L also selects address bar text.

Just "Backspace" will also go "back", much less awkward than Alt-Left.

Personally I'd love the option to assign shortcuts to bookmarks.

This will not happen. The developers have said it more than once.

It's up to other people making an extension for it, but I guess that's a somewhat tricky task even for an experienced xul programmer.

You can do it, but it's not easy, and there's no UI.
