Re: Camino [1.6.6] (-O3 GCC4.0) G3 and G4(7400 & 7450)
I have an OWC replacement processor listed as a 7455B Mercury Extreme. Would your optimized build for 7450 have any effect with this processor?

To the extent that optimised builds have any noticeable effect, yes, a build for the 7450 will be appropriate for all 745x chips.

I just wanted to thank you for going to the effort to making these builds - they work perfectly on the older G4 machines I administer at home. Would it be possible for you to do PPC-optimized builds for Camino 2.0/FF3.5/TB3?

Couple of questions about the builds:
1. Which G4 build is correct for a 1.25 ghz mini? (System Profiler doesn't tell me what series CPU it is.)
2. Is your Firefox unofficial 2.0.0.21 build based on a later Gecko than the one in this official build?

I am planning on doing optimised builds of Camino 2.0 - after it has been officially released. For Thunderbird 3.0 I think it should be ok for me to build when released but for Firefox 3.5 I'm a little undetermined at the moment, I'll just have to wait and see what happens there.

I'm not quite sure what "official build" you are referring to. Oh, there it is in your user agent (lucky I checked back as they don't show up in the post message page).
Anyway, in answer to your question, yes my unofficial build has a later version of Gecko (1.8.1.21 to be exact) compared to the last official release Firefox 2.0.0.20

Re: Camino [1.6.7] (-O3 GCC4.0) G3 and G4(7400 & 7450)
Well, I'll say that Camino G4 7450 optimized is certainly quite snappy. It does appear however that the Firefox build (which I see is named 'Bon Echo', I guess built off of nightly, tree, or trunk or whatnot) reports that it still uses Gecko 1.8.1.20 for it's engine. It does seem faster, but that's only half the point I had in wanting to run it (the other being more recent security and stability enhancements). Am I missing something? I will admit that when it showed up as Bon Echo, I didn't remove Firefox from the Applications folder - is the optimized build not updating the UA being reported? (No, I am not running Bon Echo and Firefox concurrently. They are close enough they should be able to use the same profile however.)

Re: Camino [1.6.7] (-O3 GCC4.0) G3 and G4(7400 & 7450)
All third-party builds cannot use "Firefox" as the application name if it is to be published/shared, so the alternate name has to be used.
Well that explains the name but for the UA I'm not sure what's going on there. The correct UA for my build should be: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1.21) Gecko/20090303 Firefox/2.0.0.21rpm (RPM)
One possibility could be "User Agent Switcher" add-on not set to 'Default' (assuming you have that installed). The other possibility could be coming from either "user.js" or "prefs.js" files with a custom setting in "general.useragent.****" (I can't remember the full name but just searching for these will help narrow things down)
I hope that helps.

Re: Camino [1.6.7] (-O3 GCC4.0) G3 and G4(7400 & 7450)
I figured out the snag. The file hosting site sticks it's premium service ad right below the first file in the list, which thus appears (on my 1024x768 screen) to be the only file offered. I had the G3 750 build. It was actually decent, but this is even better. I don't suppose there's any problem renaming the app file to Firefox for my own uses here (no redistribution), is there? I know the internals will still have all sorts of references to Bon Echo, but I might get ambitious enough to deal with that too.

Firefox
Oh, I see, you forgot to scroll down the page. Tut tut
You can rename the app on your own computer to whatever you want. In fact I always change my local copy to "Firefox" and also change the "innards" to Firefox as well. The only bit, that I can see, that can't be changed to Firefox is the "About" dialogue (including about:)

Not trying to put pressure, just excited to see when the new version will be ready. I really like how the optimized builds run on my older PPC mini.
