Flashblock Crash

Post by 8-bit »

I just encountered a problem when toggling Flashblock on and off. 100% reproducible. I didn't file a bug on it because, after looking at the crash report I am not sure exactly what is triggering it. Here's the deal:

** Make sure Flashblock is off before repeating the following steps ***

[0] Go to the following site: http://www.repetitive-strain.com/ (note flash animation)
[1] Click on any other bookmark you have/go to any other site
[2] Tick "Block Flash animations" on in Web Features
Crash

Pastebin entry Here

Thread 0 crash info is identical every time.

Confirmed, although I had to try twice before getting a crash.
It seems specific to that particular site. I tried a few other sites with a flash animation (including the Adobe test page), and all worked correctly.

So you're disabling Flashblock while in the process of leaving a page with Flash on it?

You don't have to be "in the process of leaving". You can continue surfing in that tab, open and close and surf in other tabs, make a sandwich, etc. -- as long as the tab that had 8-bit's test page open still exists, even if it's not the active tab, Camino will crash when you open Prefs and check the "block flash" box.

Edit: I just tested with a clean profile, opened the test page in a new window and then surfed elsewhere in that window -- again, as long as that window is still open (doesn't have to be frontmost), Camino crashes after changing the pref.

Do you need any more crash reports attached to the bug? (I have 5...)

Unless they are different from my crashlogs, I don't think it is needed.

Thanks to some stellar regression-hunting from phiw13, I think we have a handle on what checkin caused the crash, so at the moment I don't think we need any additional data. :)

Thanks everyone for bug filing, further explanation etc... I couldn't get back to the forums yesterday to further clarify after my initial post. So, the final word is that it is fixed in the latest nightly?

Yes, nice find, 8-bit. This is what, Flashblock-related bug #2 or 3 for you now? ;)

Honestly? - dumb luck. :P I suppose some of it is my surfing habits. I tend to toggle things on and off quite frequently. Mostly JS, but other times I switch things up depending on what sites I am going to. This particular one was total luck of the draw. I suppose toggling things makes Camino "experience" sites in different ways....
