hotkey bookmarks like opera/safari

Post by peterno3 »

I was wondering if there is an addon or something that would setup hotkeys like safari or opera does. By that, I mean that ctrl+1 opens the first bookmark in my bookmark bar, ctrl+2 opens the second, etc. I really like this feature and would like to have it in firefox. I already have "site launcher" but would like something better. Thanks

In addition to previous replies that you indicate answered your question:

Firefox has keyword shortcuts (bookmarks) which provide a lot more flexibility than those found in Opera and unknown in Safari. http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/kws.htm

You can modify keyboard shortcuts with the "keyconfig" extension
http://mozilla.dorando.at/ (author's site for latest version)
unfortunately addons does not maintain links and documentation, you can find some links
in the numbered links for the extension on my firefox.htm page. The main thing you
need to know after installing is Ctrl+Shift+F12 to see listing.

A list of keyboard shortcuts in the main browsers and not including additions via extensions or addons.
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/keyboard.htm

This one is probably very much in line with the original question and a better fit as asked and
more customizable than such extensions as "speeddial", "autodial" and "mybookmarks" extensions.
SiteLauncher (Firefox Add-On): hotkey based launcher for your most-used sites (327KB download)

I tested with four columns, the choices actually go left to right, but the example
went to some effort to make it look like the choice go down columns. The version on the author's
site can be used with keyboard shortcuts and/or with mouse. The version at addons can be found at

This one is much smaller than Site Launcher as it is only 24KB and strictly operated from keyboard
Ctrl+Q then <hotkey>

Nevertheless, my preference tend toward keyword shortcuts, which is builtin to Firefox by assigning a keyword to a bookmark (or a bookmarklet).
