Downloaded the very large Minotaur for win32 zip file and attempted to execute the exe file, it alerts Zone Alarm that it wants access, after giving it the okay, sounds as though it is doing something and then nothing happens. It will not open and I' tried it several times. Each time though, it does appear as a running program and the only way to close it is the ctrl-alt-delete. Got rid of it after the last attempt failed.

Minotaur seems to take a LONG time to start up. Did you try waiting?
Yes I did, even downloaded the smaller version and get the same result. I guess I'll just have to wait for the official version

Compiled ok after I installed all the required packages for my Mandrake 8.2 setup. But has anyone else noticed that while the minotaur homepage loads in the message pane at startup, none of the links work ? Neither does the Release Notes item on the Help menu. Retrieving mail (by POP) and other simple (mail orientated) tasks seem to work ok.
Since I'm new to compiling the mozilla family I figure this is my problem not Minotaur's. Can anyone who has done anything similar verify this for me.
Thanks
that's weird. On my windows build, these urls kick out to my default browser. There may be some more OS integration work that needs to happen here for linux. I'll add it to the to do list. Thanks!

Scott, in case you aren't already aware of it, Minotaur/MozMail doesn't register itself as the mailto: protocol handler in Windows. (Reg key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto)
You remind me of an old programming instructor I had in college who said that using GUI environments in computers indicates degradation of human kind because we used to have to type commands, and now we just point with a mouse as Neanderthals with a stick. LOL.

Quite simple, an HTML email is easily twice the size compared to a plain text one.
I think that "economic" is more complex a concept than the way you seem to understand it. Here’s what it means, in this context: using the minimum of time or resources necessary for effectiveness. Using formatting features such as bold, italic, underline, etc. sometimes makes a big difference. When you talk (using your vocal cords to produce sounds that make up words), you use different tones to convey nonverbal information, don’t you? But that would be uneconomical, by your logic. The bottom line is this -- you spend more, and you get more (hopefully; otherwise, you get ripped off). It’s up to you to decide if what you get for extra expenses is worth to you. Sure, if somebody sends me a one line email message, I don’t care if it contains any formatting… or any punctuation for that matter. But I use email for more, I sometimes appreciate additional formatting.

mailto: handler should now register in HKLM\Software\Clients\mailto it seems:
<a href="http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/shellcc/platform/shell/programmersguide/shell_adv/registeringapps.asp"> link to ms</A>

I wonder why they want it to be there instead of in HKCR, especially since IE itself registers in HKCR.
Registering in both would be better :)
The keys warenhaus gave is the one I talked about when discussing about the installer with you a few days ago, David. Basically, registering Minotaur or Phoenix here will allow them to appear in the default programs that are accessible from the Add/Remove program window.
