Before reporting bugs, read the bug writing guidelines.

If you have a Feature Request, please take a look at the extensions on Mozilla Firebird Help first. An example: many of the tab features missing in the Mozilla Firebird core are provided by the Tabbrowser Extensions.

Bonsai, the Mozilla Firebird tree control, useful to look for recent checkins/bug fixes to the tree:
http://bonsai.mozilla.org
To see only Mozilla Firebird-specific checkins, set "Directory" to "mozilla/browser mozilla/toolkit" (without the quotes) and choose a Date. To see all checkins to the Mozilla trunk, choose "Query SeaMonkey" from the menu (most of these fixes are automatically picked up by Mozilla Firebird).
An automated approach to accomplish basically the same:

Help with Plugins
For information on what plugins are available and how to install them, try:
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/
To see what plugins you have on your computer, paste or type the following into your address bar:
about:plugins
If about:plugins finds a plugin that doesn't seem to be working for you, the file may be somewhere other than your Firebird plugins directory. Copy the file to your Firebird plugins directory.
In Windows, most plugin files are named np*.dll, though a few have different extensions.
If you have previously used Netscape or Mozilla, you can copy files from those browsers' plugins directory to the Firebird plugins directory, and they will usually work well.

Get your icons here plus various tips
As you may recall, back in the olden days of 0.4, Phoenix had a distinctive taskbar icon. Now, all you see is the generic windows system icon. Don't like it? Instructions on how to change this can be found at the <a href="http://texturizer.net/firebird/tips.html#app_icon">Mozilla Firebird Help</a> site.
Here's a nice icon set: http://iconpacks.mozdev.org/moz11icons.zip
----------------------------------
In your profile directory, you'll find a binary file called XUL.mfl. If Mozilla Firebird starts doing strange things, e.g. running slower than usual, or crashing on sites that it previously browsed successfully, etc., try closing Firebird and deleting that file. It can't hurt, and it may help.
----------------------------------
If loading of pages from a given site suddenly becomes intolerably slow, flush your cache. (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cache-Clear)

How to uninstall an extension
Until the uninstall feature for extensions is implemented (bug 170006), use this procedure as a workaround:
- Exit Mozilla Firebird
- Change to the chrome dir of your Mozilla Firebird application dir
- Delete chrome.rdf and the overlayinfo dir (they are regenerated on next start)
- Delete <extension>.jar (or the <extension> dir, if it's used unpacked)
- Remove every line with a reference to <extension> from installed-chrome.txt (usually there are two: one to the content and one to the locale)
- A few extensions might use additional files; TBE for example has a tabextensions.js in <Phoenix dir>/defaults/pref to store its defaults in. Search through your app dir for such files and delete them.
- Restart Mozilla Firebird

I'm starting to think that this should be required reading for any post about Features or Preferences.

Mozilla Firebird now has a plugins FAQ, which should answer most plugin-related questions.

If you're not using Firefox, you're not surfing the web, you're suffering it.

Un-announced. Please add to FAFQ instead.
Instead of renaming all firebird to firefox, I'm un-announcing this post, and unlocking FAFQ.
Please add stuff to FAFQ that is not already covered (and thus avoid duplication)
