disable "This Connection is Untrusted" messages

Post by philcox »

Firefox 3 is a bit boring with the "This Connection is Untrusted" messages on some sites, caused by the fact the sites probably did not pay their fees to the "certification" companies, or do not have any (I don't care at all as long it is not a banking site).

How to disable these messages ? about:config option ?

The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. The certificate is only valid for sina
(Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

I don't need to store this kind of info I don't care at all, and which are more business issues with certification companies, as long as these sites are not banking sites.

The question is how to prevent getting these "untrusted windows".

It isn't only business issues with certification companies, it is only that no check (the check being ownership of the domain for regular certificate, business existence and domain ownershop for EV certificate) have been conducted by a trustee (i.e. one successfully audited and audit result sent to Mozilla) on the certificate, so the browser ask you to do the check by yourself.

To answer simply your question, you can't. And that's good.

?? Good to you, fine.
Not good to me because not interested to interfere with certification company businesses, especially when visiting a forum without any security concern.

If there are no security concern, why do they use https? Plain http is quicker.

??? Where did you read I used only https ??
These "untrusted messages" don't happen only with https.

They do appear only with https. Only https do use certificate.

If you get them with http protocol, it means that something (an extension, a plug-in) connect to an untrusted https site in the background.

No special plug-in or extension.
Sounds weird (and annoying because nothing related to "security").

Not in my history list .... (unfortunately), but it is not he first time I see this message with absolutely no security problem, but just certification dates and business related issue to put the pressure on sites to pay their fees....
I don't want to take part of this game.

Next time you find one, please post it there. We will see if it is a normal message (https, non-trusted certificated needing manual trust, expired certificate or a certificate issued for one site and used for another one) or if something weird is happening at your side.
