Fixed auto submit for site
http://www.crescent-news.com/auth/
There is alot of new code in this one so it would be good if alot of people would test it out. I've already tested it through most of the top 25 sites. I spoke to roachfiend and he says that the dutch version of pc world wants to include bugmenot on their next issue's dvd. So I'd love to here about any bugs before that happens
"I'm going to sing the doom song. Doom doom doomy doom doo doo doom...
... doom doo do doo dee dooooom."

I set it to disable the "auto submit" and "auto close on first try" whenever the user unselects "auto fill" because it's kind of stupid in that case for the bugmenot window to close or the empty form to me submited. Of cource if the user is going to disable all the wonderfull features I added to this project then he desureves to be... CHICKAN...
Now i'm done.
Ok, that's it. No more features. I have to stop adding things to this extension. before it gets featureitis or bloties pizza hog. I'll do bug fixes. But other then that, I'm done. So Enjoy

Need some advice.
It's become obvious that certain news sites are spidering the bugmenot site to auto-block accounts.
An easy solution to this would be to display the account details as an image but for obvious reasons I really don't want to do this.
Has anyone got any clever ideas for preventing this sort of automated blocking?

I think this was enevitable. Some sites are going to pull this stuff. They've already proved that providing a pleasent internet expernence is something they do not want. But heck, this is an arms race. If they pull this stuff. we just have to get one step smarter.
You could selectively add a captcha to certain sites that you suspect are being scripted. That way you can still copy paist the username and password. but scripts can't run unatended. However, if a site is crapy enough to hire soemone to write an anti bugmenot script they can have it surve up the captcha to some slacky making minimum wage. Plus you really can't do anything about the vigillaties out there who get a kick out of messing things up for the rest of us.
Another idea is to instead of or in addition to holding usernames and passworlds, you could hold instructions that some browser plugin can use to reg for the user, with fake info of cource. So the user could "train" the plugin by using tags in space of real date like <email> <name> <ocupation>. when the user submits the form the plugin reads the form and replaces the tags with random info of the right type and sends the instructions for how to fill in the form in the future to the bugmenot server. I suspect that most reg forms can be automaticaly filled without all that. plus average users just arn't going to be able to get it to work. There is something like this at a site called http://www.roboform.com/
Then there are sites that requred activations codes from email. We could have things like "donate an unused pop email address". we could have the bugmenot server access these addresses to get the activation code and serve it to the users browser plugin.... oh ya, we could just use maininator. nevermind

that piece of crap site pops up in every 3rd search i do
you do have to admire people that can make a living purely by being listed on a search engine ;D

Cool idea!
Another option is to close the source and put some arbitrarily ridiculous encryption and change it sooner than anyone can decrypt it.
You could charge a subs for this service and someone else can then write a bugmenotbugmenot xpi and we'll take it from there. When bugmenotbugmenotbugmenotbugmenot... gets too long a filename, everyone will have LinFS (the Opensource version of WinFS) and it can carry on.
