bugmenot.com is down right now, probably due to heavy traffic.

'failed to resolve name bugmenot.com'
bugmenot.com is still listed as registered through godaddy.com with Katz Global Domain Name Trust of Tucson, Arizona as Registrant...
Ping and Lookup: 'failed to resolve name bugmenot.com'
With all the publicity about BugMeNot recently (just check Google News), it had to be just a matter of time before they were brought down, legally or otherwise!!
And no alternative in sight to replace BugMeNot!!!

These days, this is a no-brainer...bgm wrote:Our host pulled the plug. I reckon they were pressured.
to paraphrase a Hank Williams tune: "If they've got the money, honey, they've got the clout!"
Certain entities insist on invading your privacy (even if they tell you otherwise) and will not just sit back and be overruled, even by a majority!!

It's become obvious that certain news sites are spidering the bugmenot site to auto-block accounts.
An easy solution to this would be to display the account details as an image but for obvious reasons I really don't want to do this.
Has anyone got any clever ideas for preventing this sort of automated blocking?
Well, let's resurrect the question in these General Forums and maybe someone here might have some ideas...

To be honest the whole system is flawed in the fact that it is so centralized. It would be nice if someone came up with a plugin that could be fed from multiple sources. Each source could be a list of accounts maintained by anyone with basic technical ability.
The real power would come if the end-user could find and combine multiple lists and keep them up-to-date / synced easily.
