Can not set the filter control on folder other than inbox?
I can not set the filter control on folder other than inbox.
when i set the filter on "somefolder", after restart thunderbird, it will change the folder to "inbox".
I want set all the mail in "junks" is mark as "junk mail" automatically.
my imap server support sieve spam filter, the server will move mail to "junks" folder, then i want thunderbird mark it as "junk mail".
Please help, thank you.
Thunderbird version is: 2.0.22

The message filters will only run automatically for the inbox. A long time ago you could chose one folder to have it run automatically against but that option no longer works. I think the control is kept as a convenience for when you want to manually run filters against several other folders.
You could have a Sieve script add a custom header that you test in a message filter, and have the message filter mark the message as junk and move it. Custom headers traditionally start with a X to help minimize interoperability problems.
If your email provider supports SpamAssassin you can configure the junk mail controls to trust SpamAssassin's judgment whether a message is junk. However, IMHO if your email provider runs SpamAssassin I wouldn't bother with the junk mail controls.

Why do not let people choose which folder do filtering?
Why limit it?

Can sieve add a custom header?
How? Can you show me example?
Please help, thank you.

No, my imap server does not support SpamAssassin.

I can't answer the why questions. We're not run by or formally associated with Mozilla despite the similarity in names or the fact that their support site links to us. We're an independent user community.
See http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-degene ... theader-02 for how to add a custom header. It depends upon one of the Sieve extensions. You can just try it, but I suggest you find a support page on your email providers web site that lists what Sieve extensions they support. I use http://www.fastmail.fm as my main email provider. Who do you use?

I use dovecot imap server, and dovecot's sieve does not support "addheader".
Do you know any extension can do that? (add custom header to mail or something like that)
Anyway, thank you.

Re: Can not set the filter control on folder other than inbox?
http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA/Sieve describes what the standard Sieve plugin supports. There is a ManageSieve patch that adds new Sieve features that might support addheader. Somebody called Konstantin is apparently working on adding support for editheader to dovecot-libsieve.

Message filters only run automatically for the inbox. You have to manually invoke them for other folders.

Re: Can not set the filter control on folder other than inbo
I found the solution here:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=428574
Go to the config editor, here's how: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/10960-thunder ... fig-editor
Then, create a new string preference "mail.server.default.applyIncomingFilters" to "true". Even if it seems odd, do NOT create a boolean setting, it has to be a STRING setting with the value "true".
This option will run filters on all folders, not only the inbox folder.
