A small screenshot of firefox in action!!! And larger screenshots by clicking the small screenshot picture or a link below.

If a program has a fancy design, I will download it. Looks is very important. Use popular (news) sites for the screenshot.

Internationalisation...

Post by moixa »

Please, please...do not forget all those languages out there in the world.
Provide internationalisation.

This is a very bad issue with the current site!

Safari 1.2.3, serious display problem.

Everything goes well up to the "Mozilla 1.7" news. Screenshot :

Then the main content (#mBody I guess) is pushed far, far away, under the left sidebar:

Well, if recent versions of IE supported it, I'm sure they would.

Use the /products/ page as index page

Post by panthere »

I like the more compact navigation, especially the "tabbed browsing" suggestion, but the dull blues of the top field are simply horrid, a sample of the typical cold "geek colours" that are extremely unattractive to me. The same thing done in Mozilla red or the orange and gold tones of the Firefox icon would be far more attractive and inviting, in my opinion. (Incidentally, since red is the Mozilla logo colour, why was the blue use in the first place?)

Aside from that, I think the site would have a far greater impact in general if instead of the current front page the products page - <http://website-beta.mozilla.org/products/> - would be used as the index page, since the prominently displayed large icons would show at the first glance what the site is all about which the current front page does rather badly.

Using Mozilla 1.7.2:

<a href="http://website-beta.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/sunbird.html">http://website-beta.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/sunbird.html</a>
<img src="http://markcarson.com/images/beta-mozilla-screenshot.png">

Note that the left side menu is left justified. On other pages it is lined up with the header (nestled against the main content text) and the footer extends the full width, clobbering the left side menu items.

The products page (<a href="http://website-beta.mozilla.org/products/">http://website-beta.mozilla.org/products/</a>) displays the rotated (non-official) version of the Sunbird logo. The 48x48 non-rotated logo can be copied from here:
<img src="http://markcarson.com/images/Sunbird-12n-Shadow-48-from-96.png">

Personal preference: I don't like web pages that waste screen real estate. The current beta seems to be designed to "fit" 800x600 screens. When I see a site that has a fixed content width (with vast areas of white space on one or both sides) I always think it was laid out by someone with a print medium background who does not understand the web as the flexible display medium that it is.

I already emailed the following link to Simon Paquet (Sipaq) so the Calendar screen shots page can be updated to include Sunbird 0.2 examples. Just in case you guys want to stay in sync, these are what will probably appear shortly on the Mozilla website:
<a href="http://markcarson.com/MarkCarson/Asp/SunbirdScreenshots.asp">http://markcarson.com/MarkCarson/Asp/SunbirdScreenshots.asp</a>

Other than that, keep pressing ahead guys :-)
that that is is that that is not is not is that it it is

"Firefox: The Browser Reloaded"

IMO, it would fit much better with Thunderbird's "Reclaim your inbox" if we use the "Firefox: Take back the web" slogan instead.

Indeed.

Cusser wrote:We could probably lose the version number of Mozilla too. Either that or include the version numbers for Firefox and Thunderbird, since the inconsistency was immediately noticable for me.

Perhaps they're trying to avoid referring to the suite simply as "Mozilla"? The fact that its product page lives at /products/mozilla1.x/ bears this out. In this case, perhaps the image should read "Mozilla Suite", to prevent version-lag.

I like the beta site so far, it has a very good design, but I noticed what appears to be a typo at the bottom of Firefox Promotinoal Buttons page at http://website-beta.mozilla.org/product ... ttons.html
Mozilla FirefoxT and the Firefox logo are trademarks of The Mozilla Foundation. Usage guidelines for the new logos is currently under development.

I hope this does not become the default without significant changes. It's a big step backwards IMO. The current Mozilla.org is much simpler and more organised. There are obvious divisions between the different sections and more useful links. The beta currently appears unorganised and generic. The lack of whitespace, borders and background colours makes it very hard on the eyes.

Would like to see some more clickable space below the mozilla.org logo. ATM you can click at the top and it'll work, at the bottom it won't. Clicking below the logo occurs naturally to me. If the new design could use XHTML 1.0 Transistional at least, that'd be even better.

As long as the markup is valid it doesn't matter what doc type you use -- what matters is how the site looks to non-mozilla browsers!

Really, we are trying to appeal to an end-user, right? For a site that designs applications to view web pages you expect more when seeing them design web pages...

http://website-beta.mozilla.org/products/

It's a far better front page than the current one.

The current front page over-emphasises the Mozilla 1.7 while undermining the Firefox section. I laud you for developing a CSS compatible page, but at what cost?

Remember mozilla red people!
Still much of a novice....

If by "the current one" you mean http://website-beta.mozilla.org/, that's because they haven't done that page yet - they've just taken the old content and shoved it into the new template. If you mean http://www.mozilla.org/ then I agree.
