Outlook2003 skin for thundebird [Very close to..er finished]

Post by jeanjean »

Hi :-) I know i said i was going to upload it somewhere on tuesday (or wednesday?) and didn't. Well.. school is starting so i was a bit busy :)p

Anyway here three screenshots of what is done so far:

here

here

here

You can download it from here but i am not sure how long it will be made available. I have very limited bandwidth. And it was made with a proud 7.3 version.

Now this is NOT a jar file you can install like another theme. I haven't packed it yet because it's not finished and i will only have a look at the packaging procedure once it's in a release state.

It should be possible to use it by replacing my qute.jar file with the default one provided with thunderbird. If it doesn't work.. well.. i am sorry.. i guess someone used to skin moz applications could make it work though but i lack the experience those might have when a skin doesn't work on someone else 's tbird :-) so i am afraid i won't be able to help anyone.

Important: I used lordmedikit modification code and tweaked it here and there (but i can't really remember where anyway). The skin is based on the original qute.jar file but you might find other files in the skin (references maybe). Will remove this later (at least 1mb psd file aren't left).

Now what is skinned so far: main window, new message window, see message window.

What is not (and glitches i have to iron):

contact sidebar isn't skinned
vcard isn't skinned
dropdown menu are a bit too tall and not fully skinned (looking bad when inactive)
Do not display text, the toolbar get screwed (WON'T FIX THAT, instead will make text available on the right side only for particular icon)
News icons aren't skinned yet (have to subscribe to a newsgroup and see what has to be changed)
configuraiton pane aren't skinned
adress book isn't skinned
i should erase a lot of comments that are in the packed file at the moment (when things don't work i swear a lot ;) )
customizing the toolbar in the compose message window works only one time then the option is grayed out(?)
State bar isn't skinned yet
blue square around icon should be smaller

So er.. voilà :)

Comments, advices and help appreciated ^^ (flaming, bashing and insults too .. i buy everything)

Very nice. Hope to see it gets updated for 0.9, which I hear will have the new Pinstripe theme as well as a more streamlined layout.

Looks nifty and works rather well on the 0.7+ (20040828) TB build.

Yes, it still has problems with time travelling.

TB 0.8 is not out. Tested with one of the latest TB builds (as mentioned above), it works fine.

Really? How did you do it? I tried to install it on the latest 0.8 built and couldn't get it to work.

You can't directly install it via the Themes window inside of TB since Jeanjean has not yet made it installable that way. What you need to do is copy Jeanjean's qute.jar file (and overwrite) the original qute.jar file in the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\chrome directory. Back up your old qute.jar first (if you ever want to go back, or if there are problems).

It wouldn't hurt to backup your profile either, but I saw no problems with it.
