repeat of master password dialog
The previously closed bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=534462 is still present in the latest 3.0.1 build with the latest Lightning installed. It is extremely annoying that every time I start Thunderbird3 I get prompted for the master password twice. These leads me to not use TB3 and just continue with TB2.
IMHO, TB3 is simply not ready for serious use and is still very much a beta product. And an old bug that was supposedly fixed returns and it doesn't seem like anyone cares.

It might be fixed in Thunderbird for the Thunderbird issue. But the bug report for the Lightning / Provider for Google Calendar issue is still open: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=349641.

Re: repeat of master password dialog
Looking at that bug it appears some people have been experiencing it for years, however for me I only see the problem with TB3. My TB2 install that also uses Lightning and Google Provider has never exhibited that bug, not once.ssitter wrote:It might be fixed in Thunderbird for the Thunderbird issue. I have the same problem, and I agree, this is an annoying "feature" of TB3.
TB2 only asked for the master password when you wanted it to display the passwords. This makes sense, and is what I'd like to see in TB3. Perhaps a choice between the two functionalities?

Re: repeat of master password dialog
I get as many as four or five instances of the master password popup.
Agreed, this is a highly annoying "feature". It seems to have been around in one form or another for a while, too, but has not been fixed.

Re: repeat of master password dialog
Resolved.
The double Master Password Prompt was coming from [x] Check for new messages at startup.
I turned it off: Tools/Account Settings/Server Settings
No more double prompt; Clicking "Get Mail" also does not prompt.
Must be a startup timing issue within Thunderbird
I have somewhat different scenario.
I was suddenly pounded with repeat password requests to my corporate email; every 5 minutes or so.
It started about 2 weeks ago. So I created a master password, so that Tbird could respond to these requests.
Worked well for a couple of days.
Annoyed that I had to enter the password everytime I launched, I tried to "train" the login with LastPass lastapp.exe
During the training of Thunderbird, I noticed the double Master PW prompt.
The autologin didn't work, I backed it out of LastApp.
The double Master Password prompts continue.
Is there a way to just disable Master Password at login?
Thunderbird 3.1.7 I'll look for some about: tweaks.

Re: repeat of master password dialog
Hi, you're right disabling the Get mail at startup fixes the issue for the moment.
But I still think this is a bug.
I think the correct way that Thunderbird should work is asking for the password
once and being able to download the new messages.
I'm not a programmer, but I was just wondering: would that so difficult to fix?
Btw I'm using : Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.17) Gecko/20110516 Lightning/1.0b2 Thunderbird/3.1.10
Thanks a lot for the tip,
Cheers, -Luca

Maybe the Master Password+ extension will help you as it helps me
Not only I had two accounts but also couple of google calendars that were generating password prompts at startup...
