Phoenix will not reuse the Mozilla logo. Rest assured that it will be replaced eventually.

New name....then new logo
Since Phoenix is getting a new name the logo issue can probably be put on hold; although, if you want you can always change your icon. Here is a link to the one I use:
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=3980
If you are not using a *nix you can simply save the image from the first icon preview.

Then, again :
Why must the name be changed ?
Any official answer on that ? I like "Phoenix"...
Only if/when the name changes should we bother finding a new logo ...

Because of trademark problems.HelzBelz wrote:Why must the name be changed ?
Phoenix Technologies owns the name "Phoenix" and they make a browser (a BIOS browser).
They've asked Phoenix devteam to change the name, so it must change.
And please, don't ask the same question in more than one thread.

Thanks for the reply. (sorry for posting twice; must be getting late... I thought I was asking in a different forum alltogether...)
... but "Phoenix Technologies" still haven't brought any valid reasons for this project to change its name.
The point often mentionned (and I must agree) : other software and various products do use the name "Phoenix"; none related to the BIOS company (nor the city in Arizona, for that matter...)
The name of a mythological bird applied to an open-source project used for displaying Web pages (HTML, CSS, whatever, nothing to do with BIOSes) DOESN'T get misconstrued as vaguely pertaining to "Phoenix Technologies".
Not all "burgers" come from Burger King.
There is a "National" bank in just about any country.
Canada doesn't have a "copyright infringment" on the maple leaf.
Well, you see my point...
Too bad "Phoenix Tech" don't see it...

... to the Phoenix Dev team : please, don't bend to the BIOS company; they have no rightfull claim.
Call it "The Phoenix Web Exploration Environment" or something like it...
In essence, "Phoenix" in short, for us, the users.
BTW : Who "browses" BIOSes anyways ?

Don't get me wrong, Sébastien... I totally agree with you.
They have the right to ask for a name change. However, this new "name" can still contain the word "Phoenix".
i.e. the suggestion in my previous post...
"Phoenix Technologies" is a trademark. So is (if it exists) the "Phoenix Technologies Bios Browser".
"The City of Phoenix" is also a trademark.
The word "Phoenix" by itself shouldn't be (or else, there's a "copyright comittee" somewhere that hasn't done it's homework...)

And not even a variation on "Phoenix".
The city of Phoenix is not a browser."The City of Phoenix" is also a trademark.
And please post name suggestions in the appropriate thread.

... well, it is your opinion, not a legal fact.
(at least not in Canada nor the US; I can't state this for countries in Europe though.)
And yes (as per your comment) I have already mentionned my "name" suggestions directly to the project page... not here at MozillaZine Forum though; didn't see the need to add more to a thread that the developpers will probably NOT read.

It's not my opinion, it's what Blake Ross (one of the Phoenix developers) said here: http://www.mozillazine.org/forums/viewt ... rt=30#9438
Since he's the one who announced the need for a name change, I'm pretty sure that he knows what he's saying.
