Browser Crash and Cache clear issues

Post by CodenameD »

When the browser crashes (Not just FF3.5, also IE8) or closed forcibly using the Task Manager, the entire Internet Cache is emptied.

How do I configure FireFox to stop making it happen? If it has to be done somewhere other than firefox, please tell me how to do so?

I use FireFox 3.5.9 under Windows XP Pro SP3.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100315 Firefox/3.5.9 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)

If you bump the compatibility of the CacheFixer extension and install it that should fix it.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... enusedwith
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_an_ad ... patibility
Possibly also see the comments section of the addon, the part that says "Here's an updated version"

Or, you could block or uninstall some plugins and extensions to try to prevent the crashes. Why are you having to force close Firefox with Task Manager?

I forced close the Firefox to test whether it was only the website that caused the cache clear. It seems that any form of crash (when FF is NOT closed normally) clears the cache. There are certain Flash based website which causes the browser to crash due to a glitch. Also, my computer is prone to close all application abruptly when the power is lost.

I will try the compatibility extensions, Thank you very much for the links. I will report how it went.

When I do as instructed and modify the version code etc etc and try to add the Add on in Firefox 3.5.9 I get these~

and then...

I've uploaded my modified version of the Extension here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/j1m0krz2njv/cachefixer-1.0_mod.zip. You may download it and verify if I've done everything correctly.

Please help. Since I have slow speed I rely on Cache very much. It saves precious time.

Ok I've found a way around by going into about:config and created new bool:
extensions.checkUpdateSecurity and set it to false.

However, the Cache is still cleared when I shut FireFox via Task Manager. I still haven't crashed yet so I can't tell if it will prevent that but yeah I will report if needed.
