[SOLVED] Hotmail account - TB won't remember password

Hi.

I've recently changed password for my hotmail account.

After I changed the password, Thunderbird always ask me for password when it log in to hotmail. Even if I select "Use Password Manager to remember this password" it doesn't. Next time Thunderbird log into my hotmail account (same session, doesn't restart Thunderbird) I get this error message:

Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop3.live.com responded: authentication failed

And I get the "Enter password" dialog box, but now it actually remember the password - an password is correct and Thunderbird successfully downloads any mail.

When I close Thunderbird and start up again, the same thing happens. No change, it stil won't remember the password.

Before I changed the password to my hotmail account, Thunderbird always remembered the password.

I do not suspect malware is the cause of this.

Thunderbird version 2.0.0.24 (20100228)
OS = Windows XP sp3

What settings do you have entered for the POP server for that Hotmail account?
Server name
Port
Do you have your full Hotmail email address entered for user name?
Connection Security
Secure Authentication

All my settings should be correct. Nothing but password is changed. Picture below show the server settings for my hotmail account:


Additional info:
1 - Upgraded to Thunderbird version 3.0.4. Issue remains the same.

2 - Applies to both old and new TB version: When clicking "Retry" button when error message occurs, Thunderbird always make a successfull login.

Any tip on what I could do is helpful

Let's try deleting the currently stored passwords and starting over. Go to TOOLS > OPTIONS > SECURITY > PASSWORDS > SAVED PASSWORDS button and there you can delete old passwords. The next time you "Get Mail" Thunderbird will ask for the password and you can check the box to remember the value.

Hi. New information. I just log into my hotmail account by Firefox, and it shows that I got several new mails. So that means when I click "Retry" button, no error message occurs. It just seems that TB had a success even if it didn't.

I did deletes all passwords as DanRaisch suggested, but that didn't help either. Same error message again.

Now I have deleted the profile and making a new profile from scratch.

I folowed this guide to set up thunderbird for Hotmails account. Same as I used a while ago when all worked ok.

Same result now. I don't get it working. Same errormessage as previously stated.

Problem is solved.

The last password used for my Hotmail account had a length of 17 characters. New password has 8 characters.

I don't know if this is a TB related issue or Hotmail related issue.
