Feature request -- html source code editting in compose wind

Post by doriard »

I would like to see the ability to edit html source code right in the compose window (Outlook Express has this feature and it works great). This makes it much easier to create and edit templates or create graphical emails.

Have you tried menu path Insert->HTML in the Compose window of Thunderbird?

Yes, I have tried that and it doesn't work effectively. In one case, I simply tried putting a <div><img></div> around an image to position it, and Thunderbird just threw away the <div> tags when I closed the Insert->HTML window. Outlook Express lets you edit the entire source code in a separate window -- very handy.

Mozilla still hasn't figured out there is a large demand for html email, which is why many people are still using Outlook Express and Incredimail. If Thunderbird had better support for stationery, it would surpass those other email readers in all respects.

That is a handy extension, thanks for mentioning it. Also, this extension helped me to pinpoint an html bug in Thunderbird. I had previously noticed that the "background-position" tag doesn't render properly. I now discovered that it is the vertical part of this tag that doesn't render properly. Left, center, right, values for this tag display normally, but top and bottom values don't display properly. I will update the bug I reported.

This addon http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/edithtml-en.html looks promising, but I am wary of installing an addon that has apparently not yet been embraced by the TB developer community. Can someone help me shed some light on this matter? Many thanks!
In gratitude,

Would you please start a new thread, stating your problem & leave these oldies to R.I.P.
Thank you.
There's nothing suss about that extension. Paolo is a very well trusted author.
Just check out his home page for verification.
