I went to bugzilla and typed in 'check ins'. I didn't see anything about message sizes.

Is there a better way to see check ins or what is the correct way?

comm-central pushlog, search by time period; comm-central summary, search by author/title.

My guess is bug 516787, Message size in the main window should format large numbers (message size).

Thanks for pushlog link. I've learned something new today.

Yep, it's bug 516787. After reading through it, I sent myself a large attachment to see what it's gonna display.

It does make more sense now. Just something new that is actually a good thing.

Yes, though you can't spot the 30MB mail just by its size-label width now any more... ;-)

Yeah...it would be better if KB and MB could be displayed differently somehow. Maybe MB as bold and KB not bold or a difference in text color.

Thanks to wsm, I stumbled upon a workaround that might work for you too if you experience this data loss problem with nightly builds:

1. Open about:config
2. Change mailnews.downloadToTempFile = false

Problem solved.

To override the string MB, you can change it to MegaB or MgB or whatever you want, add a custom-strings.txt file in the installation chrome directory:

Code: Select all

chrome%3A//messenger/locale/messenger.properties#megaByteAbbreviation2=%.*f MegaB

...or you can change KB as well. Make KB > Kb.

Code: Select all

chrome%3A//messenger/locale
/messenger.properties#kiloByteAbbreviation2=%.*f Kb

Thanks goes to Rod Whiteley.

Good to know that one can override the *.properties strings in this way, we should add that as a general information to the Knowledge Base if it isn't in there yet...

You can add it if you like. Someone might want to use it.

I've also didn't know this and I can't find this trick on the internet. I've testet it and it works. :)
On Mac OS X this "installation chrome directory" is: /Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/MacOS/chrome/custom-strings.txt

New issue on trunk builds:
  • #572086, Attachment functions broken - open/save/detach don't work [Mac].
  • #572065, unable to open or save message attachment [Win].
This seems to be specific to IMAP handling, POP may not be affected.

Well...if I ever get a 6/15 build downloaded I will test it.

9.0 KB/sec average on cable is rediculous.

I did test with 6/14 Shredder and didn't have any problem with #572065 with POP.
