won't play GIF animation files

Post by masalla »

Hi,
I have several GIF files that I have loaded to my blog. They play prefectly in Microsoft I.E. and in Netscape but will not play in Firefox. I think it must be a setting that is turned off somewhere? Anyone know why? The codes are exactly the same in all browsers.
Thanx

What GIF's ?
Ran your website through the Validator service, only 545 errors.
Check it at

If I use Netscape or IE to open that blog, I see my GIFs running perfectly. Does Firefox not support GIF files? It is the same for any blogs that I go to.
On my puter they open with QuickTime Player.
Maybe that Validator only works with proper web pages and not blogs? The GIFs are installed in the blog page with HTML.??

 Can you see the animated smilies in this message. They are animated gif's.

If you can then firefox is working and there is a problem on your blog page. If you can't then we can start to eliminate what's causing the problem.

Yes, I see them working. Which makes me think it must be a setting on my blog page. I check the codes and make sure they are exactly the same as in IE and Netscape. Weird that they play perfectly in those other browsers, huh?
I like Firefox and have been using it for about 6 months now, even have a button on my blog for others to get it. I want to make the animations work.
Thanks, I'll go back to settings somewhere.

I assume my blog page doesn't support Firefox. Can't make it show animations even though the html codes are identical to I.E. and Netscape. Too bad.

I don't see any animated pics on your site with FF OR IE.

Where exactly are they located at?

Security Error: Content at http://peregrine1.blogspot.com/ may not load or link to file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Bob%27s%20BLOG/ActiveBLOG/527.gif

Maybe that's why?

Because IE's security sucks so much, that any web site can just take stuff off your harddrive.

Yes, that FILE: link is a link to files on your own hardrvive... nobody but you can seen them (try viewing the site on another computer).

Firefox, for security reasons, will not follow links from a public website to your local hard drive, which is why you can't see the file.

I'm using Firefox 1.0 on Windows XP and I dont animated smilies on this page are NOT animated. They also dont work when I switch to Mozilla 1.7

However, the little animated gif I have on my homepage: http://www.mhtc.net/~pokota/blogmejake.html works fine in Mozilla 1.7, but does not show up as animated in Firefox.

It's a small thing, but I'd like my page to be viewed the way I designed it. Also I'd like to see the smilies do their animation in the forums I participate in.

Any settings I can tweak to make this happen?? Any extensions I need to DL for Firefox??

If you are talking about the little girl dancing at the bottom of the page, it works just fine.

There is a preference in about:config -- image.animation_mode . This is set to "normal" on my browser. You might want to make sure something didn't change that pref.

Actually, since I've installed a plugin (not sure which one yet), I no longer see animated gifs. I installed about 10 plug-ins so this is going to be a challenge to find the right one.

No, none of the animated gifs suggested in this thread work with my Firefox 1.0
