FAQ: Bug 206029 (Flash)

Post by Hendikins »

NOTE: This has been fixed with recent nightly builds of Mozilla Firebird, and will be fixed in Mozilla Firebird 0.7.

Q: What is Bug 206029?

A: Bug 206029 is an issue with the Flash Player installer removing the line endings from \defaults\pref\all.js in the Mozilla Firebird directory.

Q: How is this bug triggered?

A: This bug is triggered by installing Flash Player when the registry entries for plugin installation have been added system registry - either by hand, or by the unofficial installer. The Flash Player installer makes modifications to all.js and installs scripting support when these registry entries are present.

Q: What does it do?

A: This causes Mozilla Firebird to appear to use the Mozilla UI with the Classic theme, and be generally unusable (can't press enter in the URL bar, etc).

Q: What Operating Systems has this bug been reproduced on?

A: Windows 2000, Windows Me and Windows XP.

Q: What workarounds are there?

A1: Install the Flash XPI Package from Netscape (This installs Flash 6.0r79, which is the last 6.0 release).
A2: Manually select your plugins directory, and deselect Mozilla Firebird in the browser list. Note that this does not install scripting support.
A3: Back up all.js before installing Flash Player, then restore it after the installation.
A4: Open all.js in Wordpad, and resave using the same filename. This should replace the Unix line endings with DOS line endings.

Q: What causes it?

A: This is caused by all.js having unix line endings instead of DOS line endings.
