Alert (URL) could not be found.

Post by SWiley »

I run Windows 2000 (updated)
I sometimes get an Alert Warning when trying to get Firefox to go to a website. The message is: Alert: (Intended URL) could not be found. Please check the name and try again .
Sometimes closing the browser and restarting it 'fixes' the issue, sometimes closing Overnet 'fixes' the problem, sometimes nothing 'fixes' the problem. Its annoying enough for me to rethink using Firefox. I did a google search but most solutions involve fixing firewall problems and I get the problem with no firewall or it works fine with my firewall (mostly Kerio).
Another annoying error message is Alert The document contains no data.

An earlier non-firewall suggestion given to someone else was

there may be a problem with the way Firefox registers itself to handle urls in Windows or an issue with DDE messaging. A workaround for now:
1. Open Explorer
2. Select Tools and then Folder Options
3. Select the File Types tab
4. Select Extension: (NONE), File Type: HyperText Transfer Protocol
5. Click Advanced toward the bottom of the window
6. In the Edit File Type window, select open and click Edit
7. Clear the DDE message box (which should contain "%1")
8. Click OK, Click OK
9. Repeat for File Type: HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy

This wasn't my problem because the DDe message box was blank for both.

Hope someone can help

Could be that youre having problems with connecting thru firewall/proxy/router/cablemodem, time to get the manuel out.
If those doesnt help switch to ZA since kerio sometimes tends to silently block things.
