I have created an installer for Mozilla Thunderbird. It automates the task of installing Thunderbird. (Default directory is "C:\Program Files\mozilla.org\Thunderbird") New shortcuts on the desktop and icons to thunderbird's website can also be created.

This installer will (hopefully) mainly benefit 56k-ers, because the original size of Thunderbird is normally around 7-9mb. It shaves up to 3mb off, that's a ~30% decrease!

I have tested this only in a Windows XP system with 384mb ram. If I'm not wrong, the installer requires minimum 16mb ram to extract. Feedback I gathered indicates that it will work on a Windows 2000 system as well.

UPDATE: For the latest installer for the latest build, please refer to the last page of this topic, new builds may have come out by then.

(As of 14th September 2003)
Permanent Site: no more. I retiring from this business.

Tom Sommer seems to have created a web installer and is waiting for a nightly to test it on. maybe you could work together?

I've just used the Thunderbird Installer successfully on a Win 2000 machine. It works fine. Can you tell me where I can download the Firebird Installer? And can you please indicate whether the Installers install a specific build? In other words, I suppose that to install a new Thunderbird or Firebird build I shall need a new Installer build. Thanks! ;)

yes, for the moment, until regular nightlies come out, then you can just use a web installer to automatically download the new zip file. then, i heard Tom Sommers has created a web installer, but we have to wait for thunderbird to have a milestone release. The current build is 18th june 2003, i think.

i'll update the installer as long as new builds are out. until then, i am working to move from geocities to a new server.

enjoy.

Please do me a favour by posting ur amount of ram and ur operating system if the installer works for u. (And if it doesn't; specify too. Microsoft operating systems only, .exe files don't work on Mac OS X or Linux or...)

I want to know the minimum specifications for which the installer works. Let me know if the installer is self-extractable from that .exe file if you have less than 16mb ram. (Which I don't think will work; it's hopefully worth a try anyway)

Thanks

A new build 25th June 2003 is out!

Uninstall your old build first! (I changed the directory to which it installs in)

I will be adding a mirror site soon.

Please, if the installer works for you, post ur amount of ram and operating system here. I want to find out the minimum specifications with which the installer works. Btw, this installer is for Windows only.

Any problems please post here as usual. Thanks.

UPDATE: Sometimes the geocities site exceeds the allocated data transfer.

A mirror site can be found here.

Let me know if anything still goes wrong.

Actually we just need a latest-trunk folder... :(
The installer is just sitting in my computer and collecting dust

apparently my mirror site is down. i'll fix it asap, when i have the time.

anyway when the web installer comes out, aka when there is a "latest trunk" folder, i guess i'm no longer needed.

I hope the latest-trunk folder comes soon, the web-installer for Firebird worked great for me, downloading latest nighty and installing seems to be the best way to make an installer, plus all my reg entries and plugins would be restored after an update.

afaik, i think u can just install over the previous version with my installer and ur profile will be preserved.

NOTE: The 18th June 2003 build CANNOT be installed over! U must uninstall it 1st! (I changed the directory)
