Hello.

I talked about this extension in a previous post, but I think people didn't read it because the topic subject was not very interesting ("nsIAlertService") :(

The extension I have developed ("Quitomzilla") is a help for people quitting cigarettes. It shows the time you have not smoked for and the cigarettes and money saved. An alert notification raises every time you reach a "milestone" (this only works on Windows, because of the nsIAlertService interface. On Linux, I have substituted it by a flashing text in the status bar).

You can also paste your quitting information using a menu option added to textboxes context menu.

It works for Firefox (tested in 1.0), Thunderbird (tested in 0.8 and 0.9) and Mozilla Suite (tested in 1.0, 1.6 and 1.7).

If anybody wants, the extension can be downladed from http://www.quitometro.org/quitomzilla.xpi

The corresponding web page (in spanish) is http://www.quitometro.org/quitomzilla.php . You can see some screenshots there. Although it is spanish software, it includes an en-US translation.

The english version of the web page is also available: http://www.quitometro.org/admin.php?op= ... dit&pid=17

Thank you for your attention. Bye!

iirc on average every cigarette you smoke takes 6 minutes of your life. Does your extension also display the extra minutes I'll get at the end of my life if I stop smoking? ;)

Hmmm... just what every quitter needs: <b>TO BE CONSTANTLY REMINDED OF CIGARETTES!!!</b>

And if you're on a diet, congratulations on going all day without even thinking about a yummy brownie! Oops!

Thanks for your comment, chob.

I didn't include the "saved life" data consciously. It is a purely statistical number, a mean for the whole mankind. But if your are an smoker, you can't know if the cigarettes will kill you in 20 years or two months, and in the same way if you quit cigarettes you don't know if it will save you 20 years or two months. In my opinion, it's a valid number for taking an idea, but not for a concrete case. That's why I didn't include it.

schapel, when you quit cigarettes, they are in your mind all the time, independently of the extension (I really know it). The idea behind Quitomzilla is the one of positive reinforcement. It has been proven to be a good method to help quitters. In Spain (where the extension comes from), the Windows app. "Quitómetro" (brother of Quitomzilla) has been supported by two big societies helping people to quit cigarettes. And, above all, Quitometro helped me and a lot of people I know. I think it is a good tool, that's why I made it.

Just quit when you have made your mind up and are sure that this is wat you want.
Then its one short decision.

In that case you stil see quitting as a choice. But when you have really made a decision there is no choice anymore; cigarettes are no option and you should do something else that makes you feel better.
Replacing your habit with another habit, like DrPhil would say :)
