MinimizeToTray version 0.0.1.20050212 is released

Post by helix400 »

Well, Mook apparently is really busy, so I decided to write up the details of the 0.0.1.20050212 verison of MinimizeToTray.

Original thread is here: <a href="http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=104670">http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=104670</a>

You can download the extension here: <a href="http://minimizetotray.mozdev.org/installation.html">http://minimizetotray.mozdev.org/installation.html</a>
Note: This version does NOT work for any of the Firefox 1.1 trunk builds.

New updates in this release:
  • Fixed the bug that caused problems when the Calendar extension was installed
  • Added the ability to minimize the Calendar window to the tray! Woohoo!
  • Added fix for F11 full screen mode incompatibility (Many thanks to Joan Sala Soler for the code)
  • Added option preferences to the Mozilla Suite (Many thanks again to Joan Sala Soler for this code as well)
  • Added in 11 more language locales for Firefox, Thunderbird, and the Mozilla Suite
  • Added the ability to have this extension auto update. This took some work with mozdev's mirrors. Changing the filename from update.rdf to update.xml ultimately fixed the issues.
  • Fixed the Firefox and Thunderbird options window so that the window title has room to display
All in all, not too much, just a few small enhancements. But I'm happy, because this was my first attempt at really working with and building an extension, so I'm very thrilled I was able to get this much done on my own. Now I have to step back a bit to really study XUL so I can add a few helpful things.

Still on the TODO list:

To Do:
  • Minimize the window as well as hide (no visible difference, but would reduce memory use)
  • Fix interaction problems with single-window mode extensions
  • Get somebody with VC6 to compile a version that uses msvcrt.dll (which is needed by the Mozilla.org binaries anyway). This would allow us to no longer require users to first download the msvcr71.dll file onto their computer.
  • Better documentation (this, as well as the source code)
  • Solve as many bugs as we can in our <a href="http://bugzilla.mozdev.org/buglist.cgi?short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&short_desc=&product=minimizetotray">bug list</a>
As always, thanks to all who have helped. There are far too many people to mention by name now!

Thanks for this, MinimizeToTray is one of my "must have" extensions.

Any chance you can add support for the latest TB nightlies? I'm using 20050219 and getting dll errors when I start TB. (only with this extension enabled, and on a clean profile).

Thanks - didn't see anyone else ask this!

Doing the same on my machine. Has been for a long time with the the nightlies. I sent Mook an email and he said there were several things that needed to be updated in the extension to make it work with the latest nightlies.

Thanks for the info. Too bad though! Hopefully they can do it sometime soon.

Nice, thx!

When the "<i>hide</i> to tray" feature appears, will we be able to have this option:

<i>Start minimized on windows startup</i>

?

This extension dont seem to work with All-in-One Gestures. When I perform the mouse gesture to minimize FF, it'll still minimize to the Taskbar. It'll only minimize to the System Tray if I click on the Window's Minimize button. Is there a way to fix this? Cheers
The website said IE5 or better. So I installed Firefox.

I just installed Thunderbird 1.1 Alpha 1 (20050531) and can't get Minimize to Tray to work again. I get the Cannot find binary component message. I have the msvcr71.dll file in the Thunderbird program folder and in the System 32 folder (one of them never worked for me and I can't remember which one so keep a copy in each folder :)). I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the extension but it didn't help.

I know this is not a end user build but thought maybe you'd done some work on updating the extension since many regard this functionality as an absolute must.

Try the latest trunk build(29 may) of this extesion which can be found here >
http://mozdev.sweetooth.org/minimizetot ... 052908.xpi

BTW, i have a problem auto minimizing TB upon startup.
Using turbo mode my TB does not auto minimize when it is in MAXIMIZED state.
When it is in restored state it auto minimizes and hides it when starting up but i don't know why TB is not auto minimizing when it's maximized :?

Has anyone have this problem or is it just me ?

Thanks a lot! That did it. Didn't know there were trunks available.

Although the link doesn't start the download. Going up one level did the trick :) http://mozdev.sweetooth.org/minimizetot ... ray/devel/

The trunk builds aren't officially available yet....we've just been sticking new builds into that devel folder to make people happy. =)

We've made some even better changes since that May 29th version. I'm about 75% done in getting all the new changes put together. Expect to see a new release post made here in the next couple of days.

And happy we are :)

Will keep an eye out for new and improved versions.

Thanks for an invaluble extension btw. Don't think I would have stayed with Thunderbird without it. I hate cluttered taskbars :D.
