Cannot delete from Inbox and incorrectly showing as Unread

Post by sderrick »

TB 1.0

I am just seeing a very strange problem.

1.) When I start up TB it shows 2200+ unread messages in my Inbox. Is a bit over a year of email. I selected "Mark Folder Read" and all wa well. I started up TB the next day and it shows 2200+ messages unread! I treid this a coulple times, sometimes after marking them read, verify they all show as read by scrolling through them, chnage to a different mail box, change back and they show as unread!

2.) I then tried archiving the last year of messages by selecting them and then using the left cliick "Move To" menu item. It moved them to a new archive folder. All looks well. Then after restarting they are back in the Inbox, marked Unread. The new archive folder has a copy of the moved emails also.

what gives??? :-(

I've been using TB for about 6 months with nothing like this happenig before.

I am seeing the same issue. Our server is Surgemail from http://www.netwinsite.com .

I recieve mail, read it (which removes the bold/marks as read), click Get Mail, and the message(s) get marked as unread again. What gives?

If I recieve mail, read an unread message (gets marked as read), get mail (back to unread status now), and then exit TB, when I restart TB the messages are marked (correctly) as read.

Please advise ASAP, we are using TB on about 25 workstations (trying to get the others to migrate to TB) and many of the users (only IMAP users) are seeing this issue as well.

Thanks for your prompt attention to this matter.

BTW: I have tried the following... with no success....

Compacting all folders
Compacting each folder individually,
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Disappearing_mail ,
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Compacting_folders ,
and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Duplicate_messages_received just for fun...

I'm having a basically identical problem here (TB1.0, Linux - I reverted from 1.0.2 due to an annoying GUI bug that would open the application in a frozen state 50% of the time).

I have exactly 106 emails in my inbox that are seemingly "stuck" - they've been marked as read and cannot be deleted or flagged as junk, read or anything else. Plus, the "unread" count on the inbox is very broken - every time Thunderbird checks mail or restarts it adds 106 new unread messages to the total.

This bug here....

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=291585

... has a mention of disk space in connection with this issue. I ran out yesterday and this seems to have been the cause of the problem. I've freed up a couple of GB however, and these messages are still in this state and cannot be disposed of.

Extremely annoying. Combined with that GUI bug it's coming very close to ditch-thunderbird-for-a-new-client time. I started using Thunderbird because Eudora on Windows couldn't open its own mailbox file anymore, and continued using it over in Linux after migrating my profile folder. I don't want another buggy client that can't keep the data integrity of my email. To hell with features, the client needs to be stable first!

Edit: This bug was still present in 1.0.2 also. I tried reverting to see if it would fix both bugs, but it only fixed the GUI one.
