Hello, could anyone tell me if there are any plans or if it is even possible, that Mozilla and/or firefox will be able to support the microsoft fingerprint reader like internet explorer does.

Many thanks

the quote is from > this forum thread <
the master password seems to be the key. It looks like the digital persona software is actually able to remember the username and password to give to the master password dialog box (which FF only asks for the first time you need a saved password after launching it).

So, after you've installed the MS hardware, Digial Persona software, and set a master password in firefox, the workflow looks to be like this:

1) Start FF
2) Browse to password protected page (password manager asks for master password)
3) Put your finger on the reader
4) Map the fields as necessary
5) Master password dialog box is dismissed and the web form is auto-filled (I usually still need to hit enter, or click submit/ok/whatever on the web page)

This is a lot clunkier compared to IE, but it's the only firefox solution I know of ATM. Heairsoft, thanks for the input

IMHO, that device's security protection is dubious at best, I really doubt that Firefox will provide direct support for a specific piece of hardware. It is possible that a 3rd party extension developer might come up with a fix to make the Reader interface easier with Firefox.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Mine has wandered off and I'm out looking for it.

not for protection purposes at all. It is convinient when logging on to a website with a password when surfing with a friend. This way you dont have to give the patented look away look. LOL

Omnipass are soon to release fingerprint scanning software for FireFox, however, Softex who make the program DO NOT supply any updates/patches. When they update they want to sell you the new version, pathetic I know.

Does anyone make a fingerprint reader hardware that works with Firefox?

why mess with what doesn't work and might someday but still doesn't? fingerprint scanners are awesome, I should not have to compromise just because firefox is not supported/lame

So send your complaint to the manufacturer of the finger print scanner.

Omnipass 4.0 will have FireFox support. It will also include support for multiple fingerprint sensors such as: Digital Persona, Upek, Cross-Match, Authentec AES4000, AES 2501, AES3500, Silex FUS-200N, Silexe FIC-200, Ethentica Ethenticator MS 3000, and Secugen. This is all made possible by a company by the name of 123ID which supports multiple fingerprints sensor interoperably. Meaning you can enroll one time on one sensor and use different sensor for authentication, etc. Pretty Cool I thought. Check out http://www.123id.us

123id has no information on Omnipass and I have found little on google regarding the software. Where or rather when is this going to be available?

I found out about this from EliminatePasswords.com. They currently have a version available however it doesn't support FireFox. I believe 4.0(which does support FireFox) will be out by the end of the month. I do have a contact both at 123id and EliminatePasswords if you need more information let me know.

Hello all,

I still cannot make the fingerprint reader work with FF even doing what you say. It never asks me for a master password, and when I launch DigiPersona, it asks me for the data to be entered in the fields. I insert them but it won't put insert them when I put my fingerprint on the reader...

Any news ?

M$ makes it, do you really believe that M$ will make any hardware item work "easly" with any other browser ......

If you really want to have fun ... try getting your MSN favorites into another browser .... can not do it even for IE ....

the good news is Firefox is reaching that 10% and the hardware folks are now rushing to get IE and Firefox support built in for their hardware
