This thread has been closed due to the new Portable Firefox 1.0.5 Beta release:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=1603106

I've just released what should be the final bits for the new-style Portable Firefox Launcher (version 1.0.8) in conjunction with the new Portable Firefox 1.0.4 package for final general testing. There are a few changes from <a href="http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=257084">Portable Firefox 1.0.3 Beta</a>. The main change is the update to Firefox 1.0.4 and the inclusion of the new Portable Firefox Launcher 1.0.8. The only major change is that you can now rename the firefox executable for instances where execution of it is blocked. Some other bug fixes were made as well.

Download Portable Firefox 1.0.4 Release Candidate 2:
http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/portable_firefox/

If you just want the launcher, feel free to use it:
http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/portab ... _1.0.8.zip

If you want some more background on the other changes since 1.0, refer to the included readme.txt or the 1.0.3 Beta mozillaZine thread linked to above.

Please post any issues you find to this thread.

Thanks!
John

Standard Firefox already has an updater for security updates. Portable Firefox can't use it as the updates are different. But most PFF users also use a local copy and should be up on the new releases. If you're talking about regular Firefox, this would be the wrong thread.

Hi there !

I'm using PFF 1.0.4 RC2 since it's published here & I've encontered a small issue. I left firefox opened w/ only 2 tabs just for an hour and when I came back to my computer PFF processus was 99% CPU usage & over 180 Mo in RAM...

PS: running W2K SP4 on P4 2Ghz w/ 256 Mo ram (Compaq Evo D310 P9592T)

Was one of the tabs open to a page with an animated GIF, flash object or Java applet? There are known issues with all 3 in certain circumstances.

John

The issue may have resolved itself if you navigated off the pages or closed the tabs they were on. If it happens again, try that.

Here are some bugs with flash that have been reported in bugzilla. In short, I think this is a Firefox and/or Flash issue... not Portable Firefox.

Actually it's not possible as FF does not response in this case. But anyway it's no big deal & I'm tired of using the IE installed on my machine so I'll keep PFF from my personnal directory :p

The Quicktime Plug-in will not install on Portable Firefox 1.0.4 Is anyone else having this problem?

Generally, you can't use any plugins that require a local install. Quicktime, Real, Windows Media, etc all require lots more than the actual plugin itself. It *should* work if you have it installed locally, but no guarantees.

Hi! New member here.

I've been experiencing a problem ever since moving from 1.0.3 beta to 1.0.4 RC2.

I am unable to save passwords using the Password Manager. In the Privacy options area, if I check the "Remember Passwords" or change Cookies to "Until they expire", they revert back to their defaults after I close PFF and restart it. The "Remember Passwords" option works fine until I close the browser.

I have checked the "Passwords Saved" and "Passwords Never Saved" in Password Manager and "Exceptions" in the Cookies area and they all appear correct.

I double-checked and both options work fine here with the default profile included in 1.0.4 RC2. Check to see if the options work with the default profile. Your profile may be corrupt.

Thanks, John.

That fixed it, but I'm scratching my head about it though. Didn't take long for the profile to become corrupted since I started using 1.0.4 RC2 yesterday morning and to the best of my knowledge the behavior started immediately.

Ah well, thanks again. Other than that, RC2 seems to be working like a charm.

Sometimes profiles can get mildly corrupt and you don't notice it until you upgrade to a new version of Firefox. In addition, I'd say there's probably more of a chance of getting a corrupt profile within something like Portable Firefox (easy to accidentally pull the drive mid-write, etc), so backups are a good thing.

Hi, I found an error in 1.0.8. If there is no valid profile dir, the launcher asks to create one. In my case E:\Data\FireFox.profile\. Instead, it creates E:\DataFireFox.profile\.

If the right dir exists it creates a standard profile.

Actually, it asks for the creation of E:\Data/FireFox.profile\.

My ini:

[PortableFirefox]
firefoxdirectory=Tools/FireFox
profiledirectory=Data/FireFox.profile
pluginsdirectory=Data/FireFox.plugins
additionalparameters=
allowmultipleinstances=false
skipchromefix=false
skipcompregfix=false
waitforfirefox=true
