Unable to create new profiles

Hi,
I start FF with the -console -profileManager options. Whenever I try to create a new profile, the console displays:

*** loading the extensions datasource

This message is displayed every 1/2 second or so, continuously, until I kill FF. A browser window never appears. When I next start FF, the newly-created profile is listed in the Profile Manager, but if I start FF with that profile, the same infinite loop occurs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Try starting it without the -console option.

I did. The browser never appears, but FF shows in the process list. The only thing the -console option does is show you console output. It doesn't affect FF at runtime.

Any other ideas?? Please, I'm desparate -- and yes, I've uninstalled and re-installed.

Yes, Safe Mode works, but then so does my profile named "default". It's just that I can't create new ones. Any ideas?

I don't know about fixing Profile Manager, but you can create a new profile using command line options: http://www.mozilla.org/docs/command-line-args.html

OK, I tried it from the command-line (linux). First I did firefox -CreateProfile foo then firefox -P foo. I see the exact same thing as with the Profile Manager:

*** loading the extensions datasource

is repeated ad inifitum... what else should I try?

I don't use Linux, so I don't know what else you could try.
