bookmarks.html.sbsd.bak

Post by Ramona »

I have this file in more than one Profile. In two Profiles, it contains nothing, i.e., 0 KB. In other Profiles it contains 2 KB, only a few Bookmarks.

When is this file written and why? I am curious because there is a bookmarks.bak file containing all Bookmarks, so why is the bookmarks.html.sbsd.bak written... I share Bookmarks between 4 browsers, could this be the reason?

TIA for any clarification.

Ramona,

I was looking for information on "bookmarks.html.sbsd.bak" myself, and ran across this old unanswered post of yours. I thought I'd share what I found with you.

I had some of those "bookmarks.html.sbsd.bak" files in my Netscape 7.2 and Mozilla Suite profiles, all modified March 10, 2005. I found the following with a groups.google search:
Newsgroups: netscape.public.general

bookmarks.html.sbsd.bak -- LOL! When I saw your reply i realized that
"sbsd" is most likely for "Spybot -- Search & Destroy" -- which I noticed
backed up several files around the ol' disk. SBSD also creates it own HOSTS
file suffixed SBS but that's a whole different story....)
<snip>

Checking my notes I found that, in fact, I DID run SpybotSD on March 10 2005 and had removed a TurboDownload bookmark in a Mozilla profile.

Hope that helps.

I also found similar solutions on Forums:
http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/r ... 8389?r=330
http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee ... 4002106731
Etc., etc., etc., which is why I didn't pursue this thread...
