For download and via software update on all three platforms and for a bunch of locales.
You can download the binaries from: Windows Linux Mac OS X Assuming testing goes well, these bits will hopefully become 1.5 final in January after we all come back from the holidays. I want to take a moment to thank all of you who participated in the Thunderbird Testing event and the localization Thunderbird testing event for RC2. Your testing made it possible for us to release RC2 before the holidays. Thank you, -Team Thunderbirdd Last edited by mscott on January 11th, 2006, 4:55 pm, edited 4 times in total.

What is the build number of RC2 ?
My localized build (de-de downloaded 2 days ago) says Version 1.5 (20051201). Does automatic update apply to that build? Can I run the RC2 install-version over this version? Why are there no zip-versions?

I to would like to know the correct build number as mine currently says version 1.5 (20051107) and when I click "Check For Updates" under the Menu bar HELP TB checks and then comes back with "There an no new Updates available" Comments?

mscott: perhaps you could update http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/ to reflect RC2 being released. Not an easy find for people to see that RC2 is out.

Builds: 2005120115 (macintosh&windows) and 2005120113 (linux)
supernova_00: Mozilla.com is an end-user website, so rc's are not published there (like before on mozilla.org). However, the "projects page" mozilla.org has a note about Thunderbird 1.5 RC2 being released on the main page. I like chickens. Lots of them. Every day.

Ah ok, i didn't know .com was only for end-user now...thanks

I have been advised that the final release will come out in January, I thought it was going to be December.

Overall looks pretty good, although it does seem that Bug 314047, which didn't exist in 1.0.7, is still there.
I didn't get an auto-update notification (in RC1), but I may have not waited long enough if it's checking once every 24 hours.

couldn't resist
steps: 1. open Thunderbird 2. go to Tools - Options - erm, what's it in english, I believe View - Fonts, open one of the dropdowns for default codepage 3. close Options dialog 4. try 2. again, the dropdown does not open, cannot change codepage Other than that, no mail lost so far

Thunderbird has been crashing since RC1 and it seems that the problem is still around in RC2:
1. Launch TB. 2. As soon as the window shows up click on the right side of the "Get Mail" icon (where there's the little down arrow) to get a list of your email accounts. 3. The list won't show up and TB will crash and close after a couple of seconds. If you click on something else first (say, a folder) or simply wait a few seconds after TB launched before clicking the get mail icon to get your list of accounts, it won't crash. If you click on it fast enough it will crash almost every single time. Does anyone experience the same problem? I have no extensions and themes installed except talkback.

largie: couldn't resist either (to reply
abbafan1972: Yes, the QA resources were mostly devoted to Firefox 1.5. Because of that, the Thunderbird roadmap has been corrected for a January release. I like chickens. Lots of them. Every day.

I've been seeing it as well, but I just tried it on a new user account (obviously with new profile), and it doesn't happen - this might be related to a corrupt file in the profile directory. I'm going to do some exploring and experimenting, and I'll let you know if I come up with anything... Oh yeah, it's never spawned talkback on crashing this way before, but tonight it did - however, I don't happen to know how to access the talkback reports, so I haven't looked into it any further...
