Yes please. This is the only reason (besides single window mode) that I install TBE. Closing the last tab shouldn't remove the tabbar.

Tools > Options > Advanced > Browsing. Uncheck "Hide the tab bar when only one website is open".

But then when you middle-click the tab, the tab bar closes.

Well then I guess I don't understand what you're doing or trying to do.

With this option, closing the second-last tab keeps the tab bar open, but closing the last tab shuts it. The intention is that closing the last tab instead makes the last tab blank, and the tab bar always remains open. (This is useful as you can do away with the New Tab button and just always double-click the tab bar.)
