This is not a problem with FireFox, per se, as it occurs with IE as well but I didn't know where else to look for a solution.

I am having a problem with some sites not being found, can getting the "cannot find page" page, yet other people in chat rooms or on forums can access the sites just fine. I have had this happen once before, and I can't remember what the solution was, and I don't recall where I got the help from. Does anyone here have any suggestions?

Note however I have:

Restarted compter
Virus scans come up with nothing
Ad-Aware omes up with nothing
Reset my router
Reset my modem

I would try to ping the site in question to see if I get any results.

It would help if you could identify one specific site where you are having this problem. Then, perhaps we could share notes about, how your connection differs with respect to the "rogue" site compared to those of us that can get access.

It could be that your specific IP address has been blacklisted by the site in question. Usually ISPs provide your IP address from their DHCP pool. If a previous user exhibited some malicious behaviour, they may have been banned from the site. At some later date, you may have been the unfortunate soul that picked up this blacklisted IP Address. Meanwhile the dodgy character has recieved a different address and is still free to continue with his evil ways.

I recently discovered that my own IP address is banned from www.computerforum.com I had never even visited this site before in my life. Despite various attempts to get some explanation from the administrators of the site, I have yet to recieve any reply whatsoever.

Although in my case, I was presented with a "Sorry. The administrator has banned your IP address. To contact the administrator click here", other sites may simply issue the 404 response.

I would provide a link to the site in question, but it's content is not forum appropriate (FCHAN). If you know the address and don't mind you can look. It, like others, work intermittently and I don't think it's an IP thing as my IP is static.

Pinging the sites that give me access problems result in 100% loss.

Necro-File,

I get the same "cannot find page" message as you do on that site.

Hmm... Odd. I have spoken to others and they can get to the site just fine. I guess it's not a problem with me but a problem with the site. Although, it doesn't make sense for it to work for some people while not working for others.
