Looks as if we will have a Firefox Community Test Day next Thursday or Friday - stay tuned for more information. [We've] just finished up testing Firefox and Thunderbird 1.5.0.2, Firefox and Thunderbird 1.0.8, and Mozilla Suite 1.7.13. We are now working on Firefox and Thunderbird 1.5.0.3, so the test day will likely focus on testing for that release.

-no-remote only works for nightly builds of 2.0a1 after the 20th of April, rather than for 1.5. See <a href="https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=325509">bug 325509</a>.

Oh, completely missed that one (-no-remote argument beeing available), went the "batch way" until now but I really like the "it's all in the shortcut" way.
What's buggering me though is that none of the Places I know of, that document command-line arguments does mention this new -no-remote:

IMHO there should be ONE real official Place for this kind of information and it should be easier to find. I guess the right Place would be the Knowledgebase since it is already the best location to look for about:config entries.
Also there should be another column saying with what version the argument works (needed for this new -no-remote and probably also for some older deprecated arguments)
Can somebody please add this in the Knowledgebase?

So it seems that Firefox 2.0 might be born without Places!

As we have been preparing for the FF2 Alpha2 on May 9 it has become increasingly clear that we do not have time to complete an implementation of places that lives up to our standards of user experience and quality. Places is a complex and exciting feature which changes the way people use bookmarks, history, and navigate through their private space of the web. Rather than rush it to market - we'd prefer to spend the time it takes to get it right.

Thus, we are going to disable Places on the 1.8 branch and continue work on the feature on the trunk for inclusion on a future release. This is a difficult decision - but doing it this early in the release cycle gives us the time to focus on delivering an extremely high quality FF2 in Q3 and gives Places the room it needs to develop into a truly innovative feature.

To be clear - we're still focused on delivering Places as a truly compelling end user feature in a future release. We're also confident that the other features and enhancements slated for FF2 will provide a great upgrade for 1.5 users and continue to be a compelling browser choice for new users. Firefox 2 will improve security, tabbed browsing, search, RSS/structured content discovery, performance, and extension support. In order words, all the reasons people love Firefox will get demonstrably better in this release.

At the Bon Echo meeting Tuesday at 11am we'll do a more in-depth review of status of every feature area to figure out what else is at risk and make sure we have all available effort focused on the critical areas. So come prepared to talk about your feature area and plan for a longer meeting than normal.

So the improvements over 1.5 will be:

• Visual Refresh
• Safebrowser anti-phising
• Inline spellcheck
• Session Management
• RSS handling improvements
• Extension/Themes UI change
• New search engine infrastructure and UI
• New installer
• Browser performance metric measurer

and probably some other stuff that I'm forgetting.. It will also probably get more eyes on the trunk, which is something bz has been wanting. And of course the Places-haters will be happy (until it's added "in a future release")

I'd hate to see any feature get rushed through. Excellent decision. And I'm not a "Places hater" . I think once complete, Places will be an excellent Firefox feature.

ok the only thing: I'd like to make a backup of those bookamrks I made in places and i don't have in my normal bookmarks.html...well so far this feature was great, but if it must be good it needs time...I'll wait till ff 3.0

I just tried the latest HOURLY that has this:
"Bug 318057 r=ben bookmarks.html exporter, modifications to importer"
I was able to EXPORT my bookmarks to a <b>bookmarks.html</b> file !!!
Better get a build with this in it BEFORE places is disabled !!!
