OpenOffice plugin for Firefox

This plugin allows specific file extension files to be opened and displayed in the Firefox browser, it works very nicely in some Firefox Installations/Profiles. Newly created Firefox Profiles recognize this plugin - npsoplugin.dll appears in about:plugins and the file Extensions appear in the Download file types. Firefox Profiles that existed before I installed the Mozilla plugin for OO.o 2.0.1 don't recognize the plugin. I am trying to figure out how to get these 'old' Profiles to recognize the OO.o plugin.
All but one of my many Firefox installations are Zip-archive builds except for a real old Firefox 0.8 version, so Windows Registry entries for my many Firefox installations are 'ancient', but that hasn't been a problem previously with other programs that work within Firefox. With some programs and plugins such as Flash, Shockwave, or Real Player, a copy of the applicable plugin can be placed in the Firefox program files\plugins folder; then once the file associations are established thru doing the first Download of an associated file extension, those programs with work automatically within Firefox just as good as if those programs were a fresh installation. When I tried to copy the npsoplugin.dll file into both the \plugins folder or the \components folder the oo,o plugin was not recognized by Firefox and the plugin was deleted from the folder. Now for my questions: 1. does anyone have any experience with the Mozilla plugin for OO.o ? 2. does anyone have any advice on how I should proceed to get the OO.o plugin for Mozilla to work in existing Firefox Profiles ?? I am surprised that no one else has run into this - bump.

All I did was check the use Mozilla plugin in OO. All I've seen it do is open OO, the docs still dont show in Firefox.

Here is a link that might help you with Linux:
http://list.opera.com/pipermail/opera-users/2005-December/026183.html After not getting any response here at MozillaZine, and getting a "install the newest" {version of OOo} at the OpenOffice.org Forums I hadn't done anything til tonight. I finally got it working to my satisfaction for my main Profile / Firefox installation. I don't know why I had so much trouble back in April because the 'fix' was simple; put the npsoplugin.dll into the \Program Files\~\plugins\ folder, like I do do with so many other plugins. When I tried that previously Firefox kept deleting the file as soon as I opened Firefox. The only difference now is that I rebooted my computer a few times since then (normally run 24/7 without a re-boot for months, except when installing programs that need a reboot or when switching to Win98). Open Office documents actually open in Firefox for me! I get a small toolbar that is specific for that plugin at the top of the browser window, along with the document I opened from local disk. The Firefox Menu bar and Navigation bar are present so I know the plugin works within Firefox, it is not a separate OO window being opened. Very nice and very convenient, because it loads in Firefox so much faster than OOo 2.0.2 opens. Here is what it looks like. Ed A mind is a terrible thing to waste. So for you it actually opens inside Firefox weird.
Even in WinXP it opens OO separately for me. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060426 Firefox/1.5.0.3 OO 2.0.2 I didn't manually copy the plugin though. But looking at the download actions it has use plugin for actions that require OO to open. Under Linux (opensuse 10.0, Firefox 2.0.03, with openoffice.org 2.1) I got this running doing the following two steps:
1) add (copy or link) the plugin to the firefox plugin directory:
2) enable the plugin within openoffice: within openoffice, go to Tools>Options>Internet>Mozilla Plug-in and check "Enable" Firefox was then able to display a wide range of openoffice files, including Writer, Calc, Draw, and Impress.
