Sorry guys for not updating sooner, was working on my extension most of weekend. The crashing on start has been fixed...if you couldnt tell already by a bug that I'm not allowed to view so I couldn't copy the bug info to post and didn't see anything in bonsai that gave any hints to fixing the crashing.

Today's nightly build for branch was about 700 kbytes big... what's new or fixed?

335540 continuing patches? There's other stuff in the bonsai listing, too.

Well I'm sure patches are still being created...just not checked in.
Don't worry there will be a lot of chickens once the tree opens.

I'm unfamiliar with the term "The tree is closed" what exactly does that mean?

"The tree" refers to the repository in which the source code for the application is held. It's a tree in the same way a filesystem is a tree - folders and sub-folders.
Usually, a longish list of people are allowed to change anything in the tree. When the tree is closed, only certain super-beings are allowed to make changes. This means changes are made in a much more controlled fashion, which means the effects of individual changes can be more readily assessed.
That doesn't stop anyone working on fixes, as they'll be working on a local copy. It just means that when they're ready to "check in" their changes, they have to wait.

What's with the recent 'check for updates' non-functionality (nightly builds) on the 1.5.0.4 builds? It was working fine until a few days ago. (Just like 1.5.0.4 has been working fine, for me, at least...). But I'm having to run full replacement installs from ftp site

With the tree closed, should we bother worrying about nightly ' check for updates'
and just simply pull a build from the standard location
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... illa1.8.0/ periodically?

Yes you should still update to make sure nothing gets broken by one of the patches that may be checked in. There have been quite a few things checked in that are firefox only but some other checkins also affect TB.
